🇰🇬 Issyk Kul Desert Mountain Lake Combo!
Want to see snow capped peaks with bodies of water but also enjoy the desert landscapes? Look no further than… Issyk Kul Lake in Kyrgyzstan! 🇰🇬 The picture you can get from here is so colorful and pretty! You have the green grass, white snow peaks and the orange beach all in one! It is a popular spot for locals but walk a little farther than the main area you will find yourself the only one!
Getting There - despite its remote location, getting there isn’t as hard as you think! You can join the daily tour from Apple Hostel Bishkek to Issyk Kul lake!
Hotels - I would recommend staying in Bishkek but nearby there are many hotels too!
Food & Restaurants - make sure you try beshbarmak at one of the many restaurants nearby! It is one of the national staples.

Lake Issyk Kul, the 2nd largest saline lake
Issyk-Kul is the seventh-deepest lake in the world, the tenth-largest lake in the world by volume and the second-largest saline lake after the Caspian Sea.
There’s a lot of town surrounding it, we choose and went Bokonbayevo, where we can swim and watching eagle hunt demonstration.
Eagle hunting is a tradition in Kyrgyz, the hunting season will be on winter, spring and summer is the time for the wild animal to have babies. We went there in June, so we can only see eagle hunting demonstrations, but still it’s very cool to touch this giant creature. #lakes #centralasia #eaglehunters #kyrgyzstan

Issyk-Kul Lake, Kyrgystan😍
This iconic lake, the second-largest alpine lake in the world, stretches over 170 km in length and 70 km in width, drawing crowds from all over the world. Issyk-Kul, meaning "warm lake" in the local language, was named as such because it never freezes over during the winter.
Issyk-Kul Lake, with a length of 180 km and a width of 60 km, is the second-largest high-mountain lake in the world. From the lake’s shore, you can observe all significant landscapes, ranging from subtropical to tundra, in an azonal order.
The fauna of the reserve is characterized by high species diversity, though it is unevenly distributed across different landscapes. Popular activities at Issyk-Kul include fishing and taking boat tours around the lake.

A Magical Autumn Journey Through Kazakhstan & Kyrgyzstan
For 10 unforgettable days, I wandered through the golden landscapes of Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan with my 5-year-old daughter by my side. Autumn had painted everything in shades of amber and gold, turning every path, mountain, and lake into a scene straight out of a storybook.
We ran through open meadows, her tiny hand gripping mine as leaves crunched beneath our feet. She laughed as the wind caught her hair, and I smiled, realizing how rare and precious these moments were. We marveled at crystal-clear lakes reflecting the fiery colors of fall and sat quietly under towering trees, watching the world slow down just for us.
This wasn’t just a trip—it was magic. A time when the beauty of nature and the simple joy of being together made the world feel warmer, brighter, and full of wonder.

Lake Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬
#myhiddengems
Did you know that there is a lake that has salt water to it? Yes, it exists! And it’s called Lake Issyk Kul.
In Kyrgyz, Issyk-Kul means “warm lake” because it never got frozen in winter thanks to its salinity.
This lake is one of the largest saline lake in the world and also the eighth-deepest lake in the world.
Located in northeastern Kyrgyzstan, the nearest cities to enjoy this beautiful lake are Cholpon-Ata and Karakol.
There are several option to reach the lake. You could take a bus from Bishkek, the capital, to Karakol. If you just want go to Cholpon-Ata, you could drop into the city because most of the bus are going through it before reaching Karakol.
I personally went to Karakol first, then took a Marshrutka to the one of the most popular destination in Issyk-Kul Lake, which is Skazka Canyon (Fairytale Canyon). From there, you could enjoy the beautiful coastline of Issyk-Kul along with strolling on the canyon’s Mars-like terrain.
Make sure to visit this stunning salt water lake in the heart of this landlocked country!
