During the Chinese New Year period, hotel prices skyrocketed, and after much deliberation, I chose this International Youth Conference Hotel in Nanjing, which turned out to be quite cost-effective with a group purchase coupon from Ctrip.
🍃Hotel Service: The hotel's service was really a mixed bag. Communication before the stay was smooth, and the concierge department had prepared a Valentine's Day setup for us, and we were also upgraded to a room with a 180-degree view, which indeed had a great view. The cleaning ladies in the hotel were super awesome, working diligently and responsibly. After checking out, the concierge manager even called for a follow-up, which is quite rare these days. Now for the complaints: the hotel's response time was really not up to par. I don't know if it was because of the holiday crowd, but when I called for turndown service at night, it took two hours before anyone came, and only after another call. The next morning, I called for a luggage cart due to the amount of luggage, and it took more than half an hour to arrive. All of this could be attributed to the holiday crowd, but when we arrived at the hotel and got out of the car with a lot of luggage, the concierge just stood by and watched without asking if we needed help, which was quite outrageous.
🏨Room Facilities: We had communicated in advance and were upgraded to a 180-degree view room, which had a superb view, directly facing the Yangtze River and the Nanjing Eye, making it perfect for a few drinks at night. The room was spacious, with double sinks in the bathroom, which felt good, and the bathtub at the end of the room allowed for a bath with a view, which was really nice. The amenities were green tea-scented, which was great. The hotel's gym and swimming pool seemed to be open to the public, with nice equipment, but I was in a hurry this time and only had a quick look without experiencing them. Overall, it still has the advantages of a new hotel.
🍜Dining Experience: This time I tried the breakfast, which was well done on the spot, including Nanjing specialties such as duck blood vermicelli soup, chicken soup wontons, and red bean rice ball soup, as well as salted duck. The salted duck tasted really good, but the duck blood vermicelli soup was very average, the flavor was too bland. The Western food was a bit of a surprise, I didn't expect to have pizza in the morning. There were also many types of bread. The only letdown was the egg station, which only had fried eggs and felt like there were too few choices. Overall, it was a pretty good breakfast experience.
🚘Location: The hotel's location is neither good nor bad. The advantage is that it is very close to the Nanjing Eye scenic area and is itself built on top of Zaha's architecture. Next to it is the Joy City, and it's not too far from the newly opened International Finance Center, as well as the Golden Eagle World and Huacai World. It's nice for a short vacation, but it's not close to the subway stations, so taxis are the main mode of transportation. For those traveling to Nanjing, it might be better to consider the Xinjiekou and Daxinggong area.
In conclusion, the Nanjing International Youth Hotel is still suitable for people who come to the area for a vacation or those who have been to Nanjing several times and want to try a different place. The hotel gets a good rating for not raising prices during the Chinese New Year period, but there is still room for improvement in terms of service.
