All Moments About Brozas
A church that took years to complete after being stalled for many years.
The current form of the church was started in the late 15th century on the site of an original church in the town. In 1535, Pedro de Ybarra took over the continuation of the project and began to complete the west facade, which was finished around 1567. After Ybarra's death, his position was inherited. However, the construction of the church made little progress in this century, with most of the remaining work being completed under the direction of Manuel de Lara Churriguera between 1723 and 1726.
The church was originally in Gothic Renaissance style, with a rectangular hall and three naves. Its main altarpiece consists of a statue of Our Lady of Socorro, who is busy holding a child and a dart in her two hands.

The fortress of the Grand Commandery of the Order of Alcántara, commonly known as the "Palace", is a huge building that was built in the 13th century and was expanded and renovated until the mid-19th century.
Its outer walls were built in the late 16th century (fully Renaissance) and the fortress was built in the 17th century, added during successive wars with Portugal.
Today the castle palace is private property and cannot be accessed, it is used exclusively for housing and agricultural work and has nothing to do with its historical function.

Brozas has magnificent fortresses as well as interesting noble buildings.
Here is a list of some of the most interesting civil buildings: the palace of Argüillos; the one of the Marquis of Reynaud, in Baroque style but built in Renaissance style; the Montenegrin Palace of Flores, built in the 16th century; and the house of Porres-Montemayor, with walls painted white.
Speaking of religious buildings, we have to mention the Church of Santa María la Mayor, built in ashlar stone in Gothic and Renaissance styles, and the Church of Santos Mártires, built between the 16th and 17th centuries and completed only in the 1960s.
In the city of Brozas, we found a spa right in the middle of an Extremadura ranch, surrounded by pools where migratory birds breed. The hotel's spa and accommodation are equipped with modern facilities. Let's not forget about the reservoir, where tourists can go fishing, especially for tench.
