[2025 Hwacheon-gun ] Travel Guide for Hwacheon Sancheoneo Ice Festival (Updated May)

The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival is an international festival, so it's really great for kids and adults to do together. There are a lot of things to see and do, and the restaurants nearby are friendly and the food is delicious.

The Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival is back again this year! I went there for the first time in my life. First, you can take a bus from Seoul Dong Seoul Terminal for about 2 hours and 40 minutes, or take the ITX from Yongsan to Namchuncheon and then take a bus to Hwacheon for about 2 hours. Since the festival is the main event in a small town, it is easy to access and all the infrastructure is set up for the festival. If you catch trout and eat raw fish~~ and see various things to see, 2 days will pass quickly. I recommend the winter festival! #January travel support event

Take a tour bus from Seoul to Hwacheon (2:30hr). Upon arrival, foreigners are “tagged” and there are many winter activities included in the ticket price: sledding, ice fishing, pink salmon lunch, zip lining, etc. we spent the whole day there and had a blast. Perfect for winter family fun in Seoul without too much hassle! And there’s always a lot of hot coffee and tea nearby to stay warm.

I stayed in Chuncheon for a day and went to the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival. The snow-covered mountains are so beautiful! On the first day, I had a memorable time at the Chuncheon Animation Museum. The Kim Yu-jeong Literature Museum and the cafes around Uiam Lake were also romantic. Chuncheon's famous dakgalbi was also delicious. It takes an hour from Chuncheon to Hwacheon. It was my first time at the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival, but there were so many things to enjoy, such as ice fishing, sledding, skating, bobsledding, and ice soccer. You could grill the trout you caught yourself or have it made into sashimi and eat it at the shelter. They also sell other foods, such as tteokbokki and ramen, and the prices are reasonable. If you buy an admission ticket, you get a 5,000 won agricultural and marine products exchange voucher per person, so you can shop for agricultural products. There are plenty of things to see, such as Seondeung Street and the world's largest indoor ice lantern festival. There are many things to see, not just ice fishing, so it is a good place to visit with family or friends. Most of them are open until 8 p.m., so you can enjoy your time until late.

The bus from Chuncheon to Hwacheon is especially crowded at this time, and right now, the Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival is only held for 3 weeks! . A place in Gangwon-do where you can enjoy fishing through ice holes because the river is frozen solid! You can eat raw fish or grilled fish you caught next to the river. There are bobsleighs, ziplines, and sledding around the fairly wide river, so there are many programs that both the elderly who are reminiscing and the young friends who are experiencing the snow world for the first time can experience. If you pay the participation fee for fishing or sledding, a certain portion is exchanged for a local love gift certificate or agricultural specialty gift certificate. You can buy strawberries at the store right next door and use it to go to the best meat restaurant in Hwacheon, so I felt proud that I helped the local economy without even knowing it :) . If you stay in Hwacheon, you can get free night fishing or experience tickets when there are not many people, so I think it would be good to find out and apply! And the Santa Post Office that was originally located in Hwacheon is also located here like a pop-up, so be sure to experience it~!
