This tomb is the resting place of the 16th-century Mughal Emperor Humayun and his consort, showcasing a blend of Islamic and Indian architectural styles. In fact, the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, was modeled after Humayun's Tomb. Humayun's Tomb is quite serene and not very crowded. It might be a good spot for an afternoon stroll. The entrance fee for locals is very cheap (only a few dozen rupees), but it's relatively expensive for foreigners, 600 INR (about 240 TWD). However, such a beautiful place is still quite worth it. Foreign tourists are also very rare here. Since the tomb is primarily built with red sandstone, visiting at dusk is particularly beautiful as the sunlight casts a lovely glow, making it a great spot for taking Instagram-worthy photos. If you want to avoid crowded spots like the Red Fort or Jama Masjid, I highly recommend Humayun's Tomb.

However, few people know that the inspiration for this great design can be found a few hundred kilometers north of Delhi - the Tomb of Emperor Humayun of the Mughal dynasty. The project was built between 1572-1576 under the direction of Queen Hamida Baba Begum. This mausoleum is the most typical work of the Mughal style that later became famous in the world. The mausoleum took 7 years to build and was officially completed 16 years after Humayun's death. However, the garden needed a large amount of money to maintain, plus the transfer of the Mughal capital from Delhi to Agra, leading to the mausoleum being abandoned and falling into ruins. In 1947, thousands of refugees set up camp inside the walls, causing many parts of the architecture to no longer be intact as before. The turning point for Humayun’s Tomb came when UNESCO recognized it as a World Heritage Site in 1993. The tomb was also restored to its original state through funding from the Aga Khan Trust for Culture. In September 2013, after two centuries of neglect, Humayun’s Tomb was opened to visitors and once again entered the list of “Most Beautiful Buildings in the World”.
