Jinan Travel Notes: A Journey Through the City of Springs
Driving through Jinan is a dialogue between the heart and nature, a reflection on the cultural heritage of the past and present. This ancient city is renowned for its springs, and I was fortunate to leave my footprints here—Black Tiger Spring, Huangchao Waterfall, Furong Street, Daming Lake, Kuanhouli, Qushuiting Street, and the Catholic Church, each place etched with the marks of time.
In the early morning light, I arrived at the famous Black Tiger Spring. Standing by the bluestone railings, listening to the spring water gushing out from the rocks with a sound resembling a tiger's roar, I felt as if I had traveled to a mysterious world. The locals told me that there are countless legends about Black Tiger Spring, and every pool reflection and spring sound seems to be telling ancient stories.
The afternoon sunlight slanted on the stone slabs of the old street, casting mottled shadows. Walking along Furong Street, the quaint shops gave me a strong sense of historical and cultural atmosphere. As I strolled along the street, various local snacks of the Spring City made my mouth water—baked cakes, pot stickers, tofu pudding... each food carries the memories and emotions of the people of Jinan.
The tranquility and beauty of Daming Lake gave me a different state of mind. Light waves rippled on the lake surface, and the willow branches swayed gently in the wind, presenting a vivid picture of a water town in Jiangnan. Here, I seemed to hear the chanting of ancient poems and see the figures of literati and scholars wandering around, feeling the tranquility and remoteness described in their writings.
When night fell, the lights of Kuanhouli were warm and charming. Walking into this old street felt like stepping into old times. The old brand shops on both sides of the street still maintain traditional business methods and architectural styles, evoking respect. Here, I tasted authentic Jinan cuisine, and the rich flavors were just like the feeling this city gives—simple and profound.
Qushuiting Street presented a unique scene. The winding streams, small bridges, and flowing water homes all exuded exquisite elegance. Qushuiting Street at night was even more quiet and mysterious, like an unfinished ancient poem waiting for future generations to savor.
When I stepped into the solemn Catholic Church, a sense of sanctity arose in my heart. The Gothic spires pierced the sky, and the stained glass on the rose windows shone brilliantly in the sunset. The atmosphere inside the church was solemn and respectful. Here, the integration of different beliefs and cultures reflected the inclusiveness and openness of Jinan.
Every step of the journey was a journey of self-discovery. In Jinan, I found the depth of history, the richness of culture, and the peace and tranquility of my heart. In Jinan, my mind still echoes with the murmuring of clear springs, the hustle and bustle of ancient streets, the tranquility of the night sky, and the chimes of the ancient church. All of this has long surpassed mere sightseeing and become an indispensable part of my life's journey.
Jinan, I will come again.
