Weihai | Feels like the end of the world | The Blue Ways
Despite the beautiful seascape of Weihai, the hottest spot on the internet is a stranded shipwreck called Blue Ways. It was originally a Panamanian bulk carrier with no cargo. In September 2022, affected by the peripheral circulation of Typhoon 'Nanmadol', the Blue Ways ran aground near Chengshan Town in Weihai. After stranding, due to its hull shape, distance from shore, and inclination angle, it became very suitable for viewing. Since the spring of 2023, the Blue Ways has started to attract tourists from all over the country to check in, becoming one of the hottest 'photo spots' of the moment.
⛰【Travel Tips】
📍Detailed address: Not in Weihai city center, but in Chengshan Town, Rongcheng City below Weihai. If driving, you can navigate to 'Blue Ways Shipwreck Scenic Area', about 50 minutes from the city center. There is a Naxianghai International Tourism Area nearby, only 10 minutes away from there. Park on the roadside, no charge, just walk towards the sea.
🕙Opening hours: The spot is free and open 24 hours. However, it's very crowded. To get there early, I stayed at the nearby Haosheng Resort Hotel, which is only three to four hundred yuan per day.
📷 Blue Ways Photo Shooting Tutorial
👉It's very crowded, try to choose morning or noon when the sunlight is bright, to better capture the details and texture of the ship. Of course, shooting during the blue hour (around sunset) can yield dreamy color effects. It's also crowded then, so you need to find the right angle.
👉Wear clothes that contrast with the shipwreck's tones, such as a black and white coat with a bright scarf, to add visual impact.
👉Try shooting from different angles. From the west beach, you can capture the full side of the ship, both wide shots and telephoto. Walk east a bit, and you'll see many photographers who charge a fee. There are many seagulls here, and you can take pictures without paying. If you want some background, like chairs and tables, or to take a wedding photo, there are professional photographers available. Usually, it's 10 yuan per photo.
👉Besides the shipwreck being very distinctive, interacting with the seagulls is also a popular reason. Be sure to capture natural and lively moments, paired with the ship on the sea, whether it's a video or a photo, any shot is a high-quality emotional blockbuster.
📝Note tips:
👉Environmental issues: With the increase of tourists, some environmental problems have arisen, such as littering, which has some impact on the marine environment. It is suggested to charge a small fee and arrange for someone to clean up the trash.
👉I heard that there are local plans to comprehensively plan the area around the Blue Ways, including building new parking lots, guesthouses, cafes, public toilets, and other infrastructure. One can imagine, if there's a room with a view of the Blue Ways right out the window, it would become famous all over the world.
