I stayed at Hoshino Resorts KAI Kinugawa, about a 15-minute walk from Kinugawa Onsen Station. As I walked through the beautiful greenery of the trees, a hotel staff member came and guided me to the slope car that would take me to the lobby. After climbing through the trees, I arrived at the lobby. "Kai Kinugawa" is located on a hilltop that can be reached by cable car from the parking lot. The first thing you see is a beautiful courtyard. We spent a relaxing time in this extraordinary space surrounded by nature♨️ The meals served in Mashiko ware, a folk craft, were beautiful to look at and very delicious. When staying at Kai, I always look forward to the clay pot rice that comes at the end, but at Kinugawa it was Ushigure rice. Even when I was full, I couldn't help but eat too much. "Kai Kinugawa♨️" in Kinugawa Onsen There is a free shuttle bus (that stops at other hotels) from Kinugawa Onsen Station, so even if you can't drive, it's no problem 🙆🏼‍♀️ (A taxi would cost about ¥1500!) To get to the hotel, you take a 2-3 minute ride on a private slope car! It was unfortunate that the weather was bad... There is a large public bath here, and an open-air bath too!! The bath surrounded by nature was so cozy🧏🏼‍♀️! After the bath, you can eat as much black bean tea and popsicles as you want☺️💕The atmosphere is also stylish!! The meal was served on plates made from Mashiko ware, a Tochigi folk craft, and made with seasonal ingredients, and there was a quiz that was fun! (I didn't win though...) The breakfast was Japanese food, and even natto wrapped in straw, which is made in Tochigi Prefecture!! ! The local entertainment held at night is called "Mashiko Pottery Night" Choose 3 plates that you like from the display They will teach you about what Mashiko pottery is and its characteristics 😌💫 It was great to actually see it and learn about it! KAI Kinugawa is a hot spring inn that sits on a small hill overlooking the Kinugawa River. The hot spring is alkaline and simple. You can enjoy the Tochigi Mingei Room, a local room. Kuroba indigo dyeing, Mashiko pottery, and Oya stone are used throughout the building, giving it a Tochigi feel. One of the things I like about the Hoshino Resorts KAI series is the food. I love it because every meal is always delicious. On this day, I had the special kaiseki dinner course of spiny lobster and beef loin Ryujin nabe. In addition to the Ryujin nabe, which is simmered in a pot with hot stones, there were plenty of Tochigi ingredients such as dried gourd and rolled yuba, as well as sashimi, which made me very satisfied. In addition, there was a Mashiko ware night where you could learn about Mashiko ware in the evening, and there was a strawberry midnight snack during February, so I was able to spend a relaxing time. For dinner, I upgraded to a Ryujin nabe kaiseki course with spiny lobster and beef loin. The tableware is made of Mashiko ware, with a base made of Kanuma Kumiko, a traditional craft of Tochigi Prefecture, and Kuroba indigo dye. The ingredients used included yuba and dried gourd, which are Tochigi specialties, and every dish was delicious and visually pleasing. When I stayed in September, the plan included complimentary sake or strawberry cider.
