Macau to Hong Kong Cross-Border Travel|Mount Butler on Hong Kong Island: A Matcha Cake-Flavored Sky Castle
🇭🇰 On sunny days, the mountain feels like matcha cake 🍃
Hong Kong Island residents have their own sky castle! ☁️
After a weekend of heavy rain, I embarked on an adventure through the green wonderland of Hong Kong Island East.
Mount Butler—this 435-meter peak nestled between Jardine's Lookout and Mount Parker—hides traces of WWII bullet marks, an abandoned quarry, and a breathtaking viewing platform overlooking the Tai Tam Reservoir!
The hike takes about 3 hours, beginner-friendly, and here’s the guide 👇
•
Standing atop Mount Butler on a sunny day
You can gaze at the southern district’s mountains and sea, resembling matcha cake pieces scattered across the ocean.
The Pacific breeze carries a faint grassy aroma,
Evoking the refreshing summer vibes often seen in Japanese anime.
Starting from the Mount Parker Road Nature Trail (Quarry Bay entrance),
The shaded path has a gentle slope, and within 20 minutes, you’ll reach the red-brick house
The "Woodside Biodiversity Education Centre" 🌴
With colonial-style arched windows and red walls, it’s perfect for capturing retro-style photos 📸
•
After passing the red house, the stairs get steeper, but don’t worry!
This "endless staircase" actually only takes 30 minutes.
Push through, and you’ll reach the Tai Fung Au Pavilion (a spot for water breaks and rest).
•
Here’s the highlight! From the pavilion, take the trail on the right and climb for 15 minutes.
The moment you reach the summit—you’ll understand the true value of Hong Kong Island’s sky castle!
All fatigue vanishes, leaving only endless awe!
Green islands, white sails, turquoise seas, and blue skies—healing and romantic!
The emerald surface of Tai Tam Reservoir is nestled among the mountains ⛰️
The city skyline from Causeway Bay to Shau Kei Wan unfolds like a painting beneath your feet.
When the clouds part, you can even see Kowloon clearly.
•
🚇 Easy access via MTR
Take the MTR to Quarry Bay Station, Exit A, and turn right to find the Mount Parker Road trailhead.
After descending in the evening, head straight back to the hotel to relax.
The hotel is in Causeway Bay, with an excellent location!
It only cost the equivalent of one Labubu per person! Super worth it!
Highly recommend this hotel to all sisters traveling to Hong Kong ✨
