2023 Hong Kong Science Festival opens with over 140 activities for citizens to explore the fun of science
The "2023 Hong Kong Science Festival" organized by the Science Extension Group of the Hong Kong Science Museum will be held from March 31 to April 16, with the theme of "Always Be Reasonable". The Hong Kong Science Museum has partnered with over 70 scientific organisations, educational institutions, schools, universities, museums and 14 government departments and related organisations to organise over 140 science events to allow the public to explore the fun of science.
In his speech at the opening ceremony, Liu Mingguang, Director of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, said that science is inseparable from the daily lives of citizens. As long as you understand it in depth, you will find that many natural phenomena and things around you can be explained by science. He hopes that the activities of the Hong Kong Science Festival will inspire the public's interest in exploring science, promote scientific culture, encourage the younger generation to engage in innovative technology work, and contribute to the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong and the future of mankind.
The Hong Kong Science Museum will launch a number of exhibitions during the Science Festival, including the "Curiosity Rover" themed "Nano World" which will introduce nanoscience through comic panels and interactive exhibits, and the Hong Kong Jockey Club Climate Science Centre The Museum of Change co-organised the "Our Climate Action" exhibition, which introduced information on climate change through multimedia interactive exhibits, and co-organised with the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer a thematic exhibition that introduced the technology used by Hong Kong in fighting the epidemic over the past three years.
The website of this Science Festival has been transformed into an "Online Science Carnival", inviting multiple partners to provide online booths, popular science e-books and online lectures, so that citizens can learn and enjoy science anytime and anywhere.
Other exciting activities include science exploration experiences, visits and guided tours, special lectures, science demonstrations, workshops and science film screenings and post-screening talks. The topics cover various scientific fields, such as life sciences, chemistry, mathematics and physics, technology and engineering, earth sciences and climatology, astronomy and space technology, etc., bringing diversified scientific experiences to people of different ages.
