Hong Kong Park hosts bulb plant themed exhibition
The Leisure and Cultural Services Department will hold a bulb plant themed exhibition at the Forsgate Conservatory in Hong Kong Park from January 9 (Monday), giving the public the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of various bulb plants up close.
Bulbous plants refer to plants that have special organs for storing nutrients. Their rhizomes are particularly enlarged and in the shape of blocks or balls. This theme exhibition displays more than 700 bulbous plants of different forms, including lilies, tulips, daffodils, crocuses, hyacinths, irises, etc.
Lily's flowers are funnel-shaped, colorful, large and elegant, and the stamens often have a strong fragrance, making it very popular.
Tulips are attractive in shape and color. Most of them are grown in the Netherlands and are the national flowers of the Netherlands and Turkey.
White daffodils are more common than yellow daffodils. Chinese daffodils bloom during the Spring Festival, symbolizing good luck for the coming year, and are a popular New Year flower.
The corolla of saffron (also known as saffron or crocus) is in the shape of a goblet, the style is brightly colored, and the stigma is a commonly used spice.
Hyacinthus flowers are rich in color and have a sweet fragrance, making them very popular. There are more than 130 horticultural varieties.
Iris has colorful flowers and its English name comes from Greek, meaning "rainbow".
In addition to displaying more than 40 kinds of bulbous plants, this exhibition also has display boards introducing their characteristics, planting tips and reproduction methods. The exhibition will be held from January 9 to February 19, from 9am to 5pm daily at the Fok Conservatory at Hong Kong Park, 19 Cotton Tree Drive, Central. Admission is free and the public is welcome to visit.
