#Hong Kong Palace Museum Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
For the first time in Hong Kong, you must visit the West Kowloon Cultural District to see the sea
/
I recently went to Hong Kong with friends 🇭🇰
The sky in Hong Kong these days is really super blue~ Super healing~
I used to like going to Kennedy Town to see the sea 🌊
Today I recommend an even more beautiful photography spot 📷
The scenery is better, and the photos turn out great❗️
/
📍: Hong Kong Palace Museum
In Hong Kong 🇭🇰, there is a museum facing the sea, which took five years to build, drawing inspiration from the architecture and collections of the Forbidden City in Beijing. It integrates ancient and modern, East and West, from inside to outside, from top to bottom, every corner is filled with cultural characteristics. Out of the 1.86 million collections, it took over a year to carefully select each piece, and each one is fascinating.
.
📷Photo spots:
1️⃣ Third and fourth floor observation decks
My favorite photo spot, facing the sea, with blue sky and white clouds, and passing ships that make for great shots with just a snap
2️⃣ Stairs to the fourth floor
The oversized observation staircase, full of design, when the sunlight comes in, the light and shadow make for even better photos, be sure to bring a wide-angle lens, it looks good no matter how you shoot
3️⃣ Third and fourth floor floor-to-ceiling windows
Huge floor-to-ceiling windows, facing the unbeatable view of Victoria Harbour~
4️⃣ The red wall of the Palace Museum exterior
The light and shadow on the red wall create a full atmosphere, it is recommended to wear white clothes~ It looks meaningful no matter how you shoot
/
‼️Photo tips:
🔻 The museum has a total of nine exhibition halls, halls 1-5 are all exhibits on loan from the Forbidden City, and there is an opening of Sanxingdui on September 27, be sure to go see it during the National Day holiday~
🔻 If you want to take photos without people, be sure to enter right at ten o'clock when the museum opens, and head straight to the third and fourth floors
🔻 If you plan to visit during the National Day holiday, be sure to buy tickets online two days in advance, self-service ticketing can avoid queuing
🔻 Closed on Tuesdays, a complete visit to the museum takes about three hours

The aftermath of leaving Hong Kong is even greater than a breakup!
👣 Seven or eight years later, I set foot in this city again, stayed for a full 5 days, and deeply felt the unique charm of Hong Kong! Every day is a 30,000-step walk, non-stop, this trip to Hong Kong is really fun! 🇭🇰👟
📸 Photo check-in
❤️ Kennedy Town:
Charming seascape, start a romantic journey from the place name. At the end of the street is the sea and cruise ships, the sea view and sea breeze of Victoria Harbour are super charming.
❤️ Sai Ying Pun:
Streets with Hong Kong's fireworks, the staggered sense of high and low levels, walk up the slope to take pictures, the end of the road is the sea.
❤️ Tai Ping Shan Street:
Super literary and niche street, quiet and interesting, full of interesting small shops and mural walls, you can try to take a tram after walking!
❤️ University of Hong Kong:
There are romantic mountain road murals and stairs near HKU, which are very artistic.
❤️ Beacon Hill:
Recently super popular climbing spot, people and the panoramic view of Hong Kong are all in one net, the transportation is slightly inconvenient but definitely worth it.
❤️ High Street:
The pink Hong Kong Chongzhen Church of Salvation, it is very artistic to take pictures of the church on the hill.
❤️ Sham Shui Po:
Niche but with a Hong Kong flavor, escape the crowd and feel the old Hong Kong life.
🇭🇰 Hong Kong Citywalk route recommendation
1️⃣ Sai Ying Pun-High Street-University of Hong Kong-Kennedy Town: Walk to Kennedy Town, the city and the sea view are intertwined, and the interspersed scenery is super beautiful.
2️⃣ Jordan-Tsim Sha Tsui-East Tsim Sha Tsui-Avenue of Stars: A bustling street, walk before dusk, enjoy the sunset of Victoria Harbour, definitely not to be missed.
3️⃣ Sheung Wan-Wellington Street-Tai Kwun-Tai Ping Shan Street: The perfect blend of modern Hong Kong and literary Hong Kong, especially during Christmas season, with a strong Christmas atmosphere.

| One-day tour check-in record in Hong Kong
Hey dear fairies! 🌈 Finally arrived in magical Hong Kong! 🇭🇰 Wow wow wow~ It's my first time here, I'm so excited! 🤩
✅Departure
Living in Shenzhen, it's really convenient to enter Hong Kong from the Luohu port! 🚄 The clearance speed is super fast, the whole process is incredibly smooth, I didn't even have time to react, and I was already on the Hong Kong subway! 😆
⚠️Route
Kennedy Town - Central (Art Society) - Gun Factory Street Skybridge - Star Avenue (k11) - Mong Kok
1️⃣-3️⃣ The popular places in Kennedy Town are really good for taking pictures! The basketball court is also a popular check-in spot, super easy to find. After taking pictures, you can go for a walk by the nearby sea, it feels really comfortable! 🌊
4️⃣-7️⃣ Then take the subway to Central for a stroll, it feels a bit like Japan and a bit like Sydney, haha, Hong Kong is really a fusion city. The Art Society and the Gun Factory Street Skybridge are excellent choices for good photos, and the distance is not far, great! 📸👍🏻
8️⃣-9️⃣ Finally, in order not to miss the sunset in Hong Kong, I went to Star Avenue. Here I feel like I'm holding hands with Tony Leung 🥰 (just kidding). Looking at the handprints of the Hong Kong stars, it brings back the beautiful memories of having TVB accompany me when I was a child. Finally, I went to Mong Kok at night, took the world's longest escalator, it feels like a large mall and food street, not much interesting haha... 😅
☑️Summary
Overall, the one-day tour in Hong Kong feels not bad! My friend said that Hong Kong is a place where you don't want to go again after one visit, but I think it's okay! It's suitable for a leisurely stroll to feel the city atmosphere, especially Central and the city center are really like Sydney, walking all the way and feeling, every street is so familiar, it feels a bit like crossing 🕵️♀️.
Fairies, who understands my heart, come and talk about your Hong Kong stories! 🗣️💬
Hong Kong Palace Museum
Definitely a place that has to be visited.
I was a little hesitant when invited to visit the museum with a tour group of people who were much older than I was.
However, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience - I learnt a lot about the history as well as the interactive games/attractions that were included in the tour.
One of the highlights was a picture taking attraction where they would put your faces on “traditional paintings” - and could be played with more than 1 friend. We were also given the opportunity to try digital Chinese calligraphy and practice our brush strokes.
Not forgetting that the view from the sky deck was amazing amazing amazingggggggg!!!! Hong Kong truly is beautiful.
Slice of Royalty in HK
Great array of royal antiques on display. The highlight in my opinion is the good amount of resting outdoor areas between each level. The last exhibition hall is an interactive art gallery with interesting models, there was also a separate gallery that isn't part of the standard ticket. My assumption is that this gallery is a themed experience and changes from time to time. Highly recommended, important side note is that the Museum's interior is quite chilly so either dress appropriately or bring an added sweater etc

The Hong Kong Palace Museum
I managed to visit the newest museum in Hong Kong and it's already one of my fave museums.
The museum itself was well-designed and offered wonderful collections and eye-opening exhibitions. I've learned a lot about the emperors and empresses of China and had fun watching and playing with the games/activities each gallery had.
There's also a viewing deck offering a view of HK Island and the Art Park. It's really worth the visit.
Tips:
1. Bring a good camera/phone for lowlight conditions.
2. Wear a jacket as it gets chilly in the galleries.
3. Bring water. (I brought a lemon tea drink and it's not prohibited).
4. There's a bag check so don't bring sharp objects.
5. Best to go during a public holiday as it's open from 10am until 8pm. I arrived at 3pm and roamed Galleries 1 to 7 for 4 hours.

Anyone who misses these places in Hong Kong, I will definitely be very sad.
Before, my impression of Hong Kong was "shopping paradise" and the "pearl of the Orient".
Actually, Hong Kong is a city with diverse cultures. It has a unique historical and cultural background. On the streets of Hong Kong, you can always see the intersection of Chinese and Western cultures 🍃 without even trying.
After three years, I set foot on this precious land of Hong Kong again.
Organized this super artistic travel guide, taking you on a city stroll and experiencing the charm of Hong Kong, the art capital 👋🏻
·
I have always believed that to understand a city,
The quickest way is to explore local museums and street alleys.
One has cultural heritage, the other has worldly fireworks. When they merge, they create a blend of ordinary life and strong artistic atmosphere. Just like today, we will recommend two cultural treasures in Hong Kong, allowing us to explore another side of this city of art. / 🚅Itinerary: West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong → Hong Kong Palace Museum → Tai Kwun.
🔻Hong Kong Palace Museum (Figures 1-3, 7-11)
The Hong Kong Palace Museum draws on the architecture and collections of the Beijing Palace Museum, and reinterprets the two-layer exhibition of the Palace Museum culture in a way that combines the ancient and modern, and integrates Chinese and Western cultures. The exhibits are carefully selected by the Hong Kong Palace Museum team and the Beijing Palace Museum, taking more than a year to select from 1.86 million collections. Each piece is splendid. I prefer the "Concrete as Vessel" ceramic exhibition, with its "Qing Glaze Brush Washer" in the color of blue sky and rain, the Ming Chenghua Doucai Cup, the Jingdezhen Blue and White Flat Bottle... Appreciating a piece of ancient porcelain, thinking about a piece of ancient meaning, I am deeply shocked by the beauty of these orderly artifacts and cultures that have been passed down, and I wish I could travel back in time to appreciate the style of the ancients.
Don't miss the observation deck upstairs when you come here, and be sure to stay until night because the night view is too beautiful.
🚇Ke Tudiandian Subway Station Exit J2-
🔻Main Exhibition Hall (Figures 4-5, 12-14)
The Tai Kwun is located in the heart of Central, with a history of nearly 170 years. It mainly consists of 16 historical buildings. Nowadays, it has transformed into a popular spot full of artistic atmosphere. The architectural complex retains its intact buildings and offers free admission for visiting. Moreover, there are periodic exhibitions.
At the Grand Hall, I am more impressed by the charm of architecture. The new and the old, the East and the West, inheritance and innovation, culture and fashion are all organically integrated in these revitalized buildings. You can have a dialogue with the past across time and space, or appreciate trendy art... In the grand architecture and the details of art, you can slowly understand the changes of this city.
🚇: Exit D1 of Island Line /
If you still have time, why not continue to explore the West Kowloon Cultural District, where you can see the first contemporary visual art museum in Asia, M+, which is also one of Hong Kong's important landmarks. The huge exhibition space is enough for you to wander all day.
.
Let's gather in Hong Kong and attend an art appointment.

Where to get your lunch during your visit at HK Palace Museum
Jin Ya Ju Noodle Bar is one of three restaurants located right next to the Hong Kong Palace Museum. It offers chinese noodles dishes, rice dishes, and different beverages, such as milk tea or coffee latte, to choose.
They have seats indoor and outdoor, but if the weather is not good, they will not open the outdoor seats.
Ordered angus beef noodle with sesame sauce and braised beef noodle. Average cost per person is 100-150 HKD.
If you want to visit the restaurant but you haven’t finished inside the museum, you should inform the staff in the museum that you want to return back to the museum, because the restaurant can’t be accessed from inside the museum. the related staff will give you a bracelet and when you enter again from the entrance door, you will need to show your bracelet to their staff.

Refresh your mind and eyes with ancient Chinese art and crafts
I remember seeing one news article about the opening of Hong Kong Palace Museum and immediately got hooked with the idea of visiting the museum soon. As my mom came to visit me in Hong Kong, the first place I think of bringing her to visit is the palace museum.
You will need to book ticket online in advance. Normal ticket costs 50 HKD, which allows you to see 7 thematic gallery, while the other ticket costs 120 HKD and add special exhibition for your visit. I chose the normal one and did spent almost whole day there already.
How to go: from Kowloon Station, follow the sign, and you will reach a minibus stop (74/74S) that will take you to the front of the museum for 4 dollar.
There are a lot to see inside the museum, but my favorite is the part about the forbidden city where they explain detailed layout of forbidden city in Beijing, the life of the emperor and empress dowager, and beautiful ancient objects created far in the past.
I learnt a lot of things, for example about the fact that Qianlong Emperor also did a lot of preservation and study of the previous dynasties relics.
Tips: come early in the morning so you can spend a lot of time there

Hong Kong Palace Museum
A new cultural landmark of Hong Kong🇭🇰, the latest hotspot in the West Kowloon Cultural District, the Hong Kong Palace Museum has an impressive design that blends history with modernity. The museum's location is superb, offering sea views and a dedicated viewing platform that makes for great photo opportunities. The interior exhibition lighting and shadow design are fantastic, with the first and second floors being the highlights, showcasing the rich history and culture of the Forbidden City with an abundance of exhibits. Since I arrived early, there weren't many people, and there were also some interactive areas, making for an excellent visiting experience
The Hong Kong Palace Museum is worth visiting
I have never been to the Forbidden City in Beijing, but finally saw the collections in Hong Kong. The student discount ticket I bought was very affordable. Although the general ticket does not include special exhibitions, the collections in the seven exhibition halls are also very rich.
The venue is comfortable, with a view of the sea, and the collections are all very good, each one a fine piece. I especially like halls 1 and 9, and one particularly commendable thing is that the glass cases protecting the exhibits are exceptionally clear, you hardly notice the glass is there if you don't pay attention 😃😃😃
Unexpectedly good. The Forbidden City in Beijing is grand in architecture with many treasures, while the Hong Kong Palace Museum has exquisite and unique exhibits, and is very well designed, with many that can be viewed from all sides, allowing for a more detailed appreciation of the ancients' craftsmanship.

The Hong Kong Palace Museum is a revelation of treasures, all found in Hong Kong
Known as the 'Hong Kong Palace Museum', it is located at 8 Museum Drive, West Kowloon Cultural District, Yau Tsim Mong District, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is a thematic museum dedicated to showcasing Chinese cultural arts, with a total construction area of about 30,000 square meters. The museum was established through a collaboration between the Palace Museum and the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority.
The museum building was designed by Rocco Design Architects Associates, with Rocco Yim as the chief architect, and constructed by China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited. The architecture of the museum offers a new interpretation of traditional aesthetics, drawing inspiration from three major elements: traditional Chinese architecture, Chinese art, and the urban landscape of Hong Kong. It references the architecture and collections of the Beijing Palace Museum and reinterprets the culture of the Palace Museum by blending ancient and modern, as well as integrating Chinese and Western styles. The museum's color scheme is primarily based on the hues of the Forbidden City, complemented by beige, dark red, and cool gray. Visitors can enjoy views of the Hong Kong Island skyline and Lantau Island from the atrium. The museum has six floors, with two underground and four above ground; it houses nine exhibition halls, with Halls 1 to 7 dedicated to thematic exhibitions and Halls 8 to 9 for special exhibitions. The museum comprehensively and deeply displays the treasures of the Beijing Palace Museum, including paintings, ceramics, bronzes, jades, and other art collections from the Palace Museum.

The pursuit of novelty in artifacts—Treasures of the Forbidden City
Hong Kong Palace Museum's fifth exhibition hall houses 90 craft treasures. From the perspectives of design, production, and usage, the artistic value of traditional Chinese crafts is interpreted.
The Hong Kong Palace Museum is a must-visit in Hong Kong!
The museum is a collaborative project between the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and the Palace Museum, showcasing precious collections from the Palace Museum and other important cultural institutions around the world. My visit coincided with a summer weekend, and there were many families with children visiting, as well as many foreign friends. It serves as a window to present Chinese culture to the world, and after visiting, one is filled with a sense of national pride.
The museum building was designed by the renowned Hong Kong architect Rocco Yim, integrating Chinese traditional architectural culture. The highlight of the interior design is the concept of the 'central axis', a characteristic of the Forbidden City's architecture, which is reflected in three different atrium spaces on the ground floor, second floor, and fourth floor. These spaces are vertically aligned to penetrate the entire building, connecting all floors together. From the observation deck, one can enjoy very beautiful scenery.

☞Tips:
★ The Hong Kong Palace Museum is located in the West Kowloon Cultural District, on the same side as the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, Temple Street, and Tsim Sha Tsui, and faces Sheung Wan across the sea. ★ You can directly purchase a Hong Kong Internet data package on Alipay and use Amap for navigation, which is very convenient~~

★ Unlike museums in mainland China, the Hong Kong museum is closed on Tuesdays.
★ Tickets for the Hong Kong Palace Museum can be reserved on its homepage and Ctrip, but you still need to queue up with those who haven't purchased tickets to exchange for tickets on-site, which is different from the direct mobile reservation entry in mainland China, so it's not convenient.

★ Special exhibition tickets are 120 Hong Kong dollars per person, which in addition to the thematic exhibitions in Galleries 1 to 7, also allow you to visit the special exhibitions in Galleries 8 and 9:
Gallery 8 - A Myriad of Wonders: Cartier and Women (2023.4.14-2023.8.14)
Gallery 9 - Golden Splendor: Ancient Gold Artifacts from the Mengdiexuan Collection (2023.02.22-2023.09.25)
★ It is recommended to check the special exhibition dates on the homepage of the Hong Kong Palace Museum in advance. For example, I originally planned to buy a special exhibition ticket, but found that Gallery 8 was closed for setup, with only Gallery 9 open, and the special exhibition ticket price did not change, so I, being short on funds, decisively gave up on the special exhibition and only bought a standard ticket~~
★ In terms of itinerary planning, the Hong Kong M+ Museum and the Palace Museum are both part of the West Kowloon Cultural District and can be visited on the same day. At least 3 hours should be reserved for visiting the Hong Kong Palace Museum~~
★ The café and restaurant are both located on the LG floor of the Hong Kong Palace Museum, on the seaside, and waiting is required during peak dining times~~
Checking in at the Hong Kong Palace Museum of Culture, it turns out that ancient aesthetics were so advanced
Recently, while visiting Hong Kong, I took the opportunity to visit the Hong Kong Palace Museum of Culture. I believe everyone is familiar with this museum, as it is the only cultural institution in the world that focuses on the exhibition of artifacts from the Forbidden City!
If you, like the author, are a fan of contemporary design, then you must not miss this exhibition: 'In Pursuit of Antiquity'. This exhibition uses contemporary design theory to re-examine traditional Chinese crafts, and explores the common ground between traditional crafts and contemporary design. Gallery 5 is the highlight of this exhibition. I saw a Qianlong-era reticulated glass bottle with a flared mouth, where three colors were used very cleverly, looking very modern, but in fact, it has a history of more than 200 years. The design thinking of the ancients was indeed very unique, and hundreds of years later, this design can still lead the trend.
Let's talk about the architectural design of the museum. From a distance, it seems quite ordinary, but up close, you will find very unique aspects, and the interior design is also outstanding. The structure is very dynamic, giving you a sense of grandeur. The interior of the museum retains many details that echo the Forbidden City in Beijing, and incorporates the concept of the central axis of the Forbidden City into the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Moreover, on the two-level terrace of the exhibition hall, you can also enjoy the beautiful and spectacular seascape. These features make people admire the aesthetic level of the museum's architectural design.
It can be said that the Hong Kong Palace Museum of Culture is a very special cultural institution, and also a place of wisdom that is in touch with the trend. This visit was very inspiring for the author, and I look forward to the emergence of more such cultural institutions in the future. If you also come to Hong Kong, why not visit this museum. I believe you will also find unexpected surprises!
The curation clearly shows dedication
After the first sentence, the Forbidden City has provided quite a few exhibits, which are displayed here with a heightened awareness of spreading traditional aesthetics. Next to some particularly valuable collections, there are detailed explanations by docents (in Cantonese), and the entire exhibition is a combination of local and modern elements. It's not an exaggeration to say that it's more thoughtful than the exhibitions in the Forbidden City itself, and it's very much worth a visit.
Take a city walk in Hong Kong
Next stop, arriving in Hong Kong.
It's my third time in Hong Kong, and this weekend was supposed to be about helping a friend with a credit card application. However, unexpectedly, it's Easter holiday, so it was a wasted trip. Instead, let's have a Hong Kong City walk.
Perhaps it's because I'm Cantonese and grew up watching Hong Kong films, I've always had a special affection for Hong Kong. I can always find fragments of childhood memories in the streets and alleys of Hong Kong, warm and nostalgic.
First stop: Sham Shui Po Apliu Street.
I usually visit the Central and Causeway Bay areas in Hong Kong, which are bustling but lack some of the Hong Kong flavor. Sham Shui Po reveals the essence of life, stripped of the bustling decorations.
Here I ate at Ah Yat Tofu and Sun Heung Yuen. Ah Yat Tofu is very generous with its ingredients, with a strong bean flavor and a light beany taste, but it's all sweet here, so be cautious if you can't handle sweet tofu desserts! (Personally, I prefer the softer ones). Sun Heung Yuen really offers great value for money. My friend and I ordered pig's trotter noodles, beef brisket noodles, and egg beef sandwiches. The noodles are very chewy and the portions are generous (the same portion and price are almost the same as in Guangzhou), the pig's trotter is soft and melts in your mouth, and the beef brisket is very flavorful. Compared to their signature dishes, they seem a bit ordinary.
Second stop: Hong Kong Heritage Museum.
To understand a city, you must first understand its history and culture. Jin Yong's martial arts novels and unique film art are important parts of Hong Kong culture. The artworks are also very interesting. It's hard to believe that these are artworks from 50 years ago. I recommend everyone to go and see for themselves to gain a deeper understanding of Hong Kong.
Third stop: Hong Kong Palace Museum.
Located next to Victoria Harbour, you need to purchase tickets at the self-service ticket machine on the first floor. A regular ticket costs 55 yuan and allows access to galleries 1-6. Galleries 7-9 require an additional ticket (the Palace Museum galleries are also inside). Most of the exhibits are from the Ming and Qing dynasties (I wonder if they were all 'taken' by the British army), and you can also see the opulence of the Qing era. There are also a few private exhibits. I recommend it to anyone interested in or with a good understanding of Qing dynasty history, as you can basically learn about the life of the Qing royal family.

Hong Kong’s latest world-class cultural landmark, the Hong Kong Palace Museum, has officially opened after five years in the making.
Located on a 13,000-square-metre site at the western tip of the West Kowloon Cultural District, the Hong Kong Palace Museum comprises nine galleries and presents over 900 priceless treasures from the Palace Museum in Beijing.

I was lucky enough to catch the Cartier Jewellery in history special exhibition! It was so nice (tho required additional charge) to see limited edition jewels owned by celebrity to be showcased .
I want to travel to Hong Kong because I didn’t have enough time to finish all exhibitions items here!
