If you are visiting the North Island of New Zealand then definitely precook tickets to Hobbit Village! Prebook because I saw a lot of people turned away. I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings books and movies but you don’t need to be a fan to enjoy this site. I knew I was visiting a movie set but I didn’t realize it was still a working sheep ranch! The tours were well timed and I didn’t feel rushed. It was a place I’d visit again. The hobbit houses all really open up and you’re able to step inside some of them.

The Hobbit Village is the main filming site for the film Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. It is located in the small town of Matamata, 150 km south of Auckland, New Zealand. In 1998, director Peter Jackson was here and even used New Zealand. The army established this shooting site.
Every scene is so exquisite, seeing the tour guide's intentions on the details, there is a fake tree on the cave, the film crew specially imported 200,000 pieces of plastic leaves from Taiwan, and then a piece of glue from the staff On the trunk made of iron and silica gel, it is enough to see that their intentions are good.

Silent place
It locates near a farm, far from the town centre, very quiet, facilities are enough, room is clean and tidy, room is large. We can see the cows from the window of kitchen. It is suitable for the people like silence.

Reflections on Hobbiton
Hobbiton, the famous movie set of 'The Lord of the Rings', is well-preserved here. Nestled into the rolling green hillsides, the semi-circular hobbit hole cottages are 'embedded' into the hillside in a scattered, orderly fashion. The overall color scheme here is vibrant and varied, giving me a feeling of a truly unique and different flavor.

Hobbiton - Hobbit Village in New Zealand
Last October, I checked in at the famous filming location of 'The Lord of the Rings' - Hobbiton; there are currently 44 hobbit holes, some of which are still under renovation, but both the panoramic and close-up views give a sense of fantasy and romance
This is a place full of tranquil and pleasant atmosphere, with large green lawns, small and exquisitely colored houses sitting atop each mound, and in front of the doors, there are flower pots, mailbox barrels, and clotheslines arranged in a charming disorder ––– It seems like a microcosm of one of the most beautiful places on earth created by mankind

This was once an inconspicuous little place in New Zealand, but it became the world-famous Hobbiton because of the filming of 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit'. The place where the little hobbits live in the film is Hobbiton, which is peaceful and serene, filled with the atmosphere of Middle-earth, and as beautiful as a paradise.

Hobbiton, a must in New Zealand!
As a big fan of the books and the movies, this place made me feel like I was a Hobbit coming back home after a long adventure!
The details indoors are trully amazing, I could not believe what I was seeing!
The only " "} bad" "} thing is that you are part of a big tour, but there's no other way to visit it.

Mom said, just read this before going to New Zealand
I stayed in New Zealand for a week and really didn't want to leave... I saw all kinds of beautiful scenery, pure starry sky, blue glaciers, flowers all over the mountains, dreamy and magical firefly caves, various magnificent landscapes of forests, wilderness, snow mountains and fjords, 9-11 months are the spring and summer of the southern hemisphere in New Zealand, just the opposite of our autumn here, the weather is slightly warm, flowers are blooming, really super recommended!

Tolkien's Middle-earth world is like a dreamy Hobbit village
Let's go on an adventure trip, immersive experience in Hobbit village.
Whether you are a fan of the magic world or not, you will be deeply shocked when you come here.
It seems like a paradise, a quiet and peaceful manor with kind and hardworking hobbits. It is the most famous location for the films 'The Lord of the Rings' and 'The Hobbit', with a total of 44 Hobbiton huts, each with a unique and realistic design, with clothes drying at the door, smoked fish, canned honey, and rising smoke. The tour is led by a local foreign guide, with only 3 Chinese group departures a day, and the ticket price has now risen to 120 New Zealand dollars, but you can go into the newly built huts for a visit, and finally to the Green Dragon Tavern, offering 4 kinds of drinks for free, 3 of which are alcoholic (apple beer, yellow beer, black beer,) and a non-alcoholic ginger soda (which also tastes good). The whole journey takes nearly 2 hours, a journey through, and finally a beer, very comfortable, cheers🍻

Hobbiton New Zealand Tour: Visiting The Shire Movie Set
September 5, 2023
One of the most photogenic places in New Zealand is actually a movie set — Hobbiton, from the popular ‘Lord of the Rings’ series!
Hobbiton village was filmed on green farmlands in the North Island of New Zealand, and fans will be thrilled to know that they’ve kept the entire movie set from the Shire intact for people to tour.
My wife was in love with this place. If you’re a fan of the LOTR series, or fantasy movies in general (or even if you’re just a hobby photographer), don’t miss out on it! The shire was one of the highlights of our New Zealand trip!
In the books (and movies), the Shire is the peaceful green countryside where the protagonist hobbits live. Synonymous with peace and quiet, Hobbiton is a village paradise complete with dozens of little turf covered houses that look like something out of medieval England (with a fantasy twist).
The Hobbiton movie set was first created for ‘Lord of the Rings’ in 1999, with road-building help from the New Zealand Army, and then the set was completely rebuilt and expanded in 2010 for the ‘Hobbit’ movies.

I’m Going On An Adventure!
Ready for your middle-earth adventure?!
This Hobbiton Movie Set tour was definitely one of the most memorable highlight of my entire trip! Each display looks exactly like in the movies and the entire movie set was so magnificent that it made taking a pretty picture seem so easy for once. The guided tour provides you an insight to the different scenes/sets and even includes a beverage at the inn (another amazing photo opp) to end your tour.
Definitely not an experience that you’ll want to miss!
Recommendations: Book early and try to visit on a weekday to avoid the crowds - giving you more time to enjoy the views and take plenty of breathtaking photos.

The Hobitton
For the Hobitton fans, this is a must visit place. There will be a bus send you to the place of visit then will be a walking tour by a guide and it requires little hiking. The path is not suitable for baby stroller so if planning to go with infant, carrier will be better. Along the tour, the guide will explain the place and which part of the movie take place.

New Zealand | Punch around Auckland, Hobbit fairy tale world
from New Zealand's largest city, Auckland, self-driving to Hobbit Village, 200 km, about 3 hours.
There are 3 Chinese groups in the scenic area every day. After entering the Hobbit Village, you must not leave the team behind the scenic tour guide. After arriving at the scenic spot to buy a ticket, take the scenic bus.
There are 39 Hobbit houses in the scenic area. It is recommended not to carry a lot of things. Just take a camera and walk in the front or the back of the team. There is no way to take photos of your favorite in the middle.
The tour guide will take you through the whole time to control, almost no time. Finally, I will give you a 20-minute filming in a restaurant bar. A cup of ginger water can be collected free of charge in the bar.
The scene in the small house in the movie is not here, it is in the capital Wellington. The space in the small house is very small, about 2-3 square meters. It is a small warehouse for storing umbrellas and materials.
There are very rare guinea fowls in the scenic area, very cute.
