Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam,
It is also the cultural capital of Vietnam.
Temples and churches, ancient streets and theaters...
Strolling in Hanoi, discoveries everywhere.
The beauty of the fusion between the East and the West.
St. Joseph's Cathedral, the oldest Catholic church in Hanoi, has a Gothic architectural style that gives it a hint of the charm of Notre Dame de Paris. The exquisite stained glass inside the church is worth seeing, with each depicting a different biblical story. Hoan Kiem Lake, located in the center of Hanoi, is a great place for local residents to relax and play. On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings, the lakeside road turns into a huge open-air night market, where you can enjoy the lake view and taste roadside snacks. Water puppetry is a traditional stage play in Vietnam, with stories mostly drawn from folk life. Puppeteers need to stand underwater to manipulate the puppets, which is a great test of skill. The Thang Long Water Puppet Theater in Hanoi still offers the opportunity to enjoy such traditional drama.

A romantic walk by the Hanoi lake
Not long ago I was walking around the Hoàn Khiêm lake nd I was surprised to see so many couples having a good time over there, walking around, taking pictures, getting some drinks or eating street foods and snacks.
I met someone there who became a very close friend of mine and I wish those memories stay with me to cherish those moments.

Lake of Returned Sword
Hoan Kiem Lake is a 12 ha fresh water lake located in the historical center of Hanoi, also known as Sword Lake.
The banks of the lake are popular for the locals to do morning exercise, since the lake is not so big, visitors tend to walk around this peaceful and beautiful lake, especially on the weekend.
In the middle of the lake is a small island with a small stone pagoda, but you cannot go there, because there are no bridges or boats to the island.
The Ly Thai To statue which is a large bronze sculpture of the founder of the Ly dynasty of Vietnam was erected in 2004.
There are people playing games, children riding motorized cars, people taking beautiful photoshoots, vendors selling snacks, souvenirs, drawing pictures and many more for you to discover.

Getting There - Within walking distance as the lake is located at the center of the capital of Vietnam.
Attractions - Known also as Sword Lake, Hoan Kiem Lake is one of the top must visit attractions in Hanoi for the beauty of the peaceful lake and few historical landmarks(namely the Ngoc Son Temple, the Red Bridge/Huc Bridge, and the most significant of all; the Turtle Tower at the center of the lake). Hoan Kiem Lake is the most famous scenic spot in Hanoi, Vietnam. It can also be said to be the central area. It is the most famous one among many large and small lakes. The whole lake is narrow and long in the north and has an elliptical shape. In the past, there were waterways connected with the Red River not far from the east. Later, it was cut off by the river bank. The trees around the lakeshore are verdant and covered with shade. The lake is crystal clear and quiet.
The shore is accompanied by wind towers, water rafts and other ancient buildings. The water is dotted with jade mountains, Qixu Bridge, Zhenbo Pavilion and Turtle Tower. The Turtle Tower and the One Pillar Temple are the landmarks here.
The Hoan Kiem Lake area is also a famous place for backpackers in Vietnam. Visitors from all over the world come to Hanoi to choose the hotel in Hoan Kiem Lake. There are many small streets near Hoan Kiem Lake. There are many stalls and performances in the evening. There are many food choices here, and the prices are quite cheap. You can sit on a bench on the street and leisurely drink some coffee.

Hoan Kiem Lake is located in the center of Hanoi's Old City. There are roundabouts around the lake. Many tourists or locals will come for a walk after a meal. There is also a turtle tower in the center of Hoan Kiem Lake. It was built in 1884. It is a small tower with a multi-layered spire. Hoan Kiem Lake is more like a patron saint to the locals. The whole river is built around this lake.

After the night, the Hoan Kiem Lake looked much better than the daytime. I found a restaurant in the boat house and tried cold spring rolls and delicious rice noodles! But then this rice noodle was tired because it was eaten every day.........
Walk around Huanjian Lake, this is actually a lake like Chinas casual university, and its a circle around, its surrounded by Hanoi. The most prosperous street, there is a good-looking celebration of the New Year's lighting, and a good Dior shop ~
Hoan Kiem Lake is really nothing to shoot, can only pat the flowers and plants ~ everywhere is a speeding motorcycle!
Huajian Lake is not finished in an hour or so. We started to visit the small street alleys. There are many exquisite small crafts~ tooth carvings and shell carvings are more distinctive, and there are nice little boxes. For the agricultural light industry countries like Vietnam, the work is particularly good at it. I finally saw a little advantage of the city~
I saw a scene on the side of the road, the performer sat under a particularly large banyan tree. Oops, the locals are particularly fascinated. When you look closely, there are three words "Encourage Pavilion" on the back. It should be a place where the performances of songs and dances are fixed. This name makes me feel very good, that is, there are drums and dances, and it can really be inspiring. I don't know if there is such a pun in Vietnamese.

Hoan Kiem Lake will gather tourists and locals in the afternoon, sit on the river and chat in the cold. During the day, it is a relatively ordinary lake. At night, there are lights on the river bank, and the night scene becomes very charming. It is worth seeing. .
This is a gathering place for boutiques and cafes, plus the unique French architecture and trees in Vietnam, where shopping is both leisurely and romantic. In order to find the coffee "Pho Co Coffee" recommended by James Food, we took a few trips on the ancient street. Here are the detailed routes, please take away, no thanks! There is a boat-shaped building in Hoan Kiem Lake. There is a 5-way intersection on the left. Just 5 meters to the west of the intersection, a shop selling clothes goes inside. There is an alley, walk through a black aisle, and walk in and suddenly become cheerful. Don't have a world. The store says it has a hundred years of history and is a traditional egg coffee. The first floor is a yard with a variety of potted plants. There are teahouses on the 4th and 5th floors, and you can see Hoan Kiem Lake. Adding the egg yolk to the foam and putting it on the coffee, it is indeed a special feature. It is no wonder that some people come here from time to time.

Welcome to Vietnam!🇻🇳
It was a chilly and vibey trip! The weather was so cold in Sapa but it was all worth it for the view🤩(can be very foggy when its raining or at night⚠️).
Hanoi on the other side is beautiful with the nightlife and more suitable for young/city people. I went in February and mind you it was freezing cold at around ~14degrees🥶
Overall it was an amazing trip, food was good and stay was great! #sapa #hanoi #vietnam

The aftertaste is too strong; I played from day to night by the Return Sword Lake
When it comes to must-visit places in Hanoi, everyone will definitely think of Return Sword Lake first. There are countless lakes in Hanoi, but Return Sword Lake stands out not only because of its profound historical heritage but also because of its joyful atmosphere from day to night, which really can infect everyone.
The earliest Return Sword Lake was actually just a branch of the Er River, which later became a lake due to the siltation of the waterways to the north and east. During the Li and Chen dynasties, it was called Green Water Lake, and later it was renamed Navy Lake because it was used as a place for training and reviewing the naval forces. Later, it was said that the Vietnamese monarch Lê Lợi received and returned a sword here, and the lake was finally renamed Return Sword Lake.
At first glance, Return Sword Lake doesn't seem very special, with its narrow and oval surface, you can see the end at a glance. Fortunately, the lake water is still clear, revealing a simple texture. Walking along Return Sword Lake is quite pleasant, even if it takes only a few dozen minutes to walk around. The trees around the lake are lush and elegant, and in the bustling Hanoi, it is a rare place of comfort.
There are two landscapes in Return Sword Lake that are most eye-catching, one is the Jade Mountain Temple on Jade Mountain Island on the north side, and the other is the Turtle Tower on Turtle Hill Island on the south side. I have already made a separate post about Jade Mountain Temple, and although you can't get close to the Turtle Tower on the island in the lake, you can see it from a distance—Turtle Tower is a multi-layered spire with four corners, combining European architectural style, with two layers of Gothic curtains on the lower level, but the arched roof retains the traditional Vietnamese architectural style. Under the mutual influence of the two architectural styles, Turtle Tower has a unique and chic beauty, and many times it is regarded as a spiritual symbol of the people of Hanoi and even the Vietnamese.
As the night deepens, Return Sword Lake after the lights are up is completely another look. If Return Sword Lake during the day is still a place for leisurely walks, Return Sword Lake at night is completely a huge stage, with different street performers occupying every corner of the lake, from traditional songs to fashionable fast dances, from model catwalks to playful entertainment, the sleepless Return Sword Lake is busier than during the day, with a dazzling feeling.
And for tourists, there is one place not to be missed at night at Return Sword Lake, and that is the water puppet show. The Thăng Long Water Puppet Theatre next to Return Sword Lake has performances almost every night, but it is best to buy tickets in advance, as it is not easy to buy them on the day.
Water puppetry is the most characteristic traditional folk stage play in Vietnam, and it is also a unique puppet show in the world. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that the puppet show is performed on the surface of the pool; the performers must soak in the water for a long time, using their strong arm strength and skilled rope control skills to make the puppets vividly perform various legendary stories.
The whole performance is quite interesting, although it is a bit simple, the strong local flavor is very touching, and it performs the traditional farming, fishing, and even the legend of Return Sword Lake. The various sounds under the performance of traditional instruments also give a feeling of being there. The only thing to complain about is the performance introduction booklet, although there is Chinese, it feels like the Chinese is just perfunctory, except for the title in Chinese, the introduction part is still in English. In contrast, the Japanese version of the introduction is very neat and all translated, and the layout and everything looks better.

Impressions of Hanoi
Taking advantage of the 8-day National Day holiday in 2023, my friend and I planned to enter Vietnam from Hekou, Yunnan, and take a sleeper bus directly to Laojie from the Laojie port of entry for 4 hours. The day we arrived was our National Day, and many Vietnamese people were also gathered around Hoan Kiem Lake for activities, which was very lively.
🌟Highlights:
In the old town area around the lake, you can see them sitting on small chairs and tables, ordering some cold drinks or some food to gather together. The main feature is that those stools are very small, and it's very lively.
🍽Food Recommendations: When you're in Hanoi, you must try a bowl of beef noodles, which is especially delicious. Also recommended are grilled meat vermicelli, fried spring rolls, and egg coffee.
👍Most Recommended: The places to visit are all concentrated around the old town area, including Hoan Kiem Lake, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Thang Long Temple...
This impression, perhaps because of the holiday, made me feel that Hanoi's population is very large, the motorcycle army is particularly spectacular, and Hanoi's air pollution is still quite serious, with smog during this period. However, this city still has its connotations, and it is recommended to visit for two days.

Hoan Kiem Lake, a Freshwater Lake in Hanoi
Hoan Kiem Lake, also known as the Lake of the Returned Sword, is a famous freshwater lake with a large public park located in the heart of Hanoi, Vietnam, in the area of the old city quarter. The legend associated with this place is a part of the national creation myth of Vietnam. It is said that in the 15th century, Emperor Le Loi of the Le Dynasty used a sacred sword to expel the invading Ming Dynasty Chinese from Vietnam. While he was on a boat on this lake, a giant turtle emerged from the water and told him to return the sword to the Dragon King. The sword then flew from its scabbard into the turtle's mouth before disappearing back into the depths of the water, which is the origin of the name Hoan Kiem Lake. This giant turtle is the Yangtze giant softshell turtle (Rafetus swinhoei), one of the largest and most critically endangered turtle species in the world, which lived in this lake. Today, in the Ngoc Son Temple, also known as the Jade Mountain Temple, located at the northern part of the lake, there is a stuffed specimen of this turtle on display. To reach Ngoc Son Temple, one must cross the wooden The Huc Bridge, also known as the Sunbeam Bridge, which is painted a bright red color and is one of Hanoi's distinctive features.
Open daily from 08:00 to 18:00.
Entrance fee for Ngoc Son Temple is 30,000 VND per person.

Beautiful Hoan Kiem Lake
#hanoi #lake #hoankiem #hoankiemlake #attraction
Right in the heart of old quarter is the famous Hoan Kiem Lake where it has both a different view in the morning, evening and night. This is exceptionally beautiful in the evening and at night where you will see the shops and cafes around the lake being lighted with night lights and the reflection of the lake making this spot tranquil and a good photo taking spots too.
In the evening you will see many joggers around the lake and i believe on Sundays the roads are close for a car free day allowing us to walk around freely and enjoy the sights around the lake. There are benches around the lake for you to chill, this can be quite a relaxing spot to chill the night away.

🔛 It rained for half a day today, and the rain stopped in the afternoon. I came for a walk. Perhaps because of the rain, there were not many tourists, and almost everyone was taking pictures and checking in. 📸
🛍️ There doesn't seem to be much to visit in the roadside shops, so I sat at the riverside KATINAT Cafe and had an avocado milkshake. Although it was a blind order, it was really super delicious! I will order it again in the city next time!

Fortunately, the taxi fare is a fixed price with the App. After a hard time, I finally arrived at the place, which took two hours, and the driver was also very sorry. When I came back, I took the Vinbus free bus, but I sat in the wrong direction and ended up at the terminal. With my broken Vietnamese, I asked the bus driver to lead me to the bus I really wanted to take, and finally returned home

Vietnam | The green years by the Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi
After the sleeping bus in Luang Prabang, Laos, and two days of rain in Hanoi, the sky finally cleared on the day of departure. Although it was cloudy, I walked around Hoan Kiem Lake, where many Vietnamese young men and women came to take photos in traditional costumes.
I was in a hurry in Hanoi, actually I didn't stay enough, but seeing the weather forecast of a sharp drop in temperature and rain, I quickly booked a ticket to Hoi An Ancient Town with a history of more than 1500 years, which is an hour's drive from Da Nang and is known as the Lijiang and Dali of Vietnam. If you just want to visit Hanoi, one day is enough.

**Hoan Kiem Lake, Hanoi: A Serene Oasis in the Heart of the City**
During my recent trip to Hanoi, I had the pleasure of visiting the iconic Hoan Kiem Lake, and it was nothing short of mesmerizing. Situated in the bustling heart of Hanoi, this lake is a tranquil haven that offers a stark contrast to the city's lively streets.
The beauty of Hoan Kiem Lake is evident from the very first glance. Its calm waters reflect the azure skies and the surrounding verdant trees, creating a picturesque setting that's perfect for photography enthusiasts. As I strolled along its shores, I was greeted with views of the historic Turtle Tower, standing as a sentinel in the middle of the lake, reminding visitors of the lake's rich history and legends.
One of the standout features of my visit was the vibrancy around the lake. Locals practicing Tai Chi during the early hours, children laughing and playing, and couples leisurely walking hand in hand, all contribute to the lively ambiance. The nearby Ngoc Son Temple, connected to the lake via the iconic red Huc Bridge, is another must-visit. Its intricate architecture and deep-rooted history provide an insightful look into Vietnamese culture.
Food stalls and quaint cafes lining the perimeter of the lake offer a variety of local delicacies. As I sat sipping on a cup of the renowned Vietnamese drip coffee, I couldn't help but soak in the serene atmosphere.
In conclusion, Hoan Kiem Lake is a testament to Hanoi's ability to blend the old with the new, offering visitors a perfect mix of history, culture, and natural beauty. A trip to Hanoi would be incomplete without a leisurely visit to this enchanting lake.#deliciousfood #Vietnam #Hanoi #familytravel #couplestrip #deliciousfood #칼라운지

Hoàn Kiếm Lake's Vibrant Night Delight
Beneath the full moon's gentle glow,
I stroll by Hoàn Kiếm Lake's shimmering shore,
A tranquil scene, like a dream's bestow,
With people walking, laughter galore.
Kids playing, their spirits free,
In the moonlit night, their joy takes flight,
Aerobic dance with grace and glee,
A harmonious rhythm, pure delight.
Beside the lake, souls find their peace,
Gazing at the moon's ethereal grace,
Nature's symphony, a calming release,
In this enchanting moment, time to embrace.

Great Hanoi coffee. 97% of Vietnam coffee market is dominated by Robusta coffee beans. Very tasty but also strong black coffee. The taste is very bitter but the foam on top sweetens it a little. You may also wish to try the egg coffee and egg bears. Very very caloric but definitely a must try in Vietnam Hanoi. After the coffee take a walk along side the main lake in central Hanoi.#Hanoi
