My trip to Hanoi, Vietnam was about 4 days long, and I spent most of my time in the Old Quarter. Compared to the modern Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi felt more historic and profound. I went to Hanoi on a whim, mainly for the food. I visited other attractions as I felt like it (I don't travel to check off boxes anymore). So I didn't visit many places, like the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long, which I only saw from afar. . 1⃣️ Hoan Kiem Lake Located in the center of the Old Quarter, this is a landmark of Hanoi. Its name comes from the legend of Le Loi, a Vietnamese national hero. I recommend visiting at night, when locals gather here to dance and walk, and there are occasional performances. . 2⃣️ 36 Streets Built by representatives of 36 trade guilds on the site of a former floating market, each street has its own unique trade, such as silverware and herbal medicine. The buildings are all old houses, and you can experience the culture of Hanoi. . 3⃣️ Temple of Literature Built by Emperor Ly Thanh Tong in the 11th century, it was modeled after the Confucius Temple in Qufu, Shandong. It was originally built to honor Duke Zhou and Confucius. The complex consists of five courtyards, representing the five elements of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth in Chinese culture, as well as the five virtues of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trust in Confucianism. . 4⃣️ St. Joseph's Cathedral A Gothic building built during the French colonial period, it was modeled after the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris and is one of the oldest churches in Hanoi. It sells all kinds of things wholesale, covering all aspects of life. . 7⃣️ Hoa Lo Prison Museum During the French colonial period, Hoa Lo Prison was one of the largest prisons in North Vietnam, mainly used to hold political prisoners who opposed French colonialism. I recommend renting an audio guide and listening to the stories of the time, which are quite meaningful. . 8⃣️ Vietnam Museum of Ethnology Mainly preserves and displays the cultural heritage of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam, with three exhibition halls. I think the Southeast Asian culture exhibition area is worth a visit. . Overall, Hanoi was a pleasant surprise. Apart from the motorcycles everywhere, the Old Quarter was full of life. You could say it's not modern, or you could say it has preserved its culture well. 🌈 The local snacks are especially good, much better than those in Ho Chi Minh City (see my food review). MẸT VIETNAMESE RESTAURANT & VEGETARIAN FOOD, a restaurant that we would like to recommend when visiting Hanoi. There are many branches. This restaurant is popular among locals in Hanoi. The taste is delicious and affordable. The staff provides excellent service and can communicate in English well. 6. Ray hotel, a hotel completed in 2023, is very new. We stayed here for 2 nights and were very satisfied. The room is beautiful, spacious, clean and not far from other tourist attractions. It is close to Christmas, so the hotel is decorated with lights and a Christmas tree, very beautiful and magnificent. For those who are not staying here, you can check in and take beautiful pictures. The hotel has a bar called Mojo. We saw many beautiful Vietnamese girls checking in and taking pictures. There is also a famous Chinese restaurant, Crystal Jade. 7. it was really nice walking around at 7am and seeing everyone slowly start their day in the morning. there were so many elderly people doing tai chi, zumba, fishing and playing badminton around the park and opening their shops, really interesting to see.

There were so many streets selling different things like clothes, gifts, snacks and more and the Old Quarter really comes alive at night. And they do hold a huge night market every Saturday.

we visited their underground level which is where they sell secondhand clothes, shoes and accessories. went there to thrift but be prepared to haggle a lil bcuz they really raise the price up so much for tourists and are very insistent on you purchasing something even if youre just lookin around 😭 
✧ Choc Dong Tac Market
one huge giant thrift market, they have rows and rows of shops just selling secondhand clothes and for cheap! when i say its just mountains of clothes they really are mountains…some clothes are just lying on the floor in the shops and getting stepped on 😀 you just gotta have the patience and stamina to dig through everything…..def can find some really nice pieces here

not really thrift but a shop selling vintage clothes and they had a second level selling casettes and records (Tiem Casette)! pretty nice place and they had a lot of vintage designer items for an okay price.

VERY crowded place but very happening!!! promoters will be trying to pull you in to their bars/restaurants just make sure you take note of your belongings and also the guys here abit pervy so just be careful 😵💫 lots of bars to try and is also the main street where all the clubs are!

stopped by at night because they were having a mini christmas event so we came to take some pics! it was really crowded tho but cathedral was pretty, i think it looked nicer at night with all the lights
