It exhibits about 60 typical buildings from all over Hokkaido, dating from the Meiji and Taisho Periods, the era when Hokkaido's development was carried out on a large scale. There are four different sections: a town, fishing village, farm village and a mountain village. The village also offers workshops on traditional toy making and straw crafts, which allow you to become familiar with frontier era culture. 😬

Travel back to the Meiji and Taisho eras at the Historical Village of Hokkaido, an open-air museum showcasing more than 60 historical buildings. Located on the outskirts of Sapporo, this immersive experience offers a glimpse into the past, where you can explore old town halls, farmhouses, and fishing huts. The picturesque surroundings also make it a great place for photography. Visiting in winter adds another layer of charm, as the snow-covered structures create a nostalgic and peaceful ambiance. #Sapporo #100WaysofTravel #HistoricalVillage #StepBackInTime #CulturalExperience

More 50 historical buildings to be explored
There is so much to see here you need 4-5 hours if you want to do it all and look inside all the buildings. You have to take your shoes off so make sure you have easy access footwear!
The interior and external architecture are still intact and maintained to reflect the period accurately. Totally worth the visit!
Be aware that you need to take of your shoes in almost every house. So, don't wear your fancy hiking boots where you need help to get in and out of them.

Some of the paths were closed off due to the heavy snowfall but it didn't detract from the experience as you could still see all the buildings.A pretty big village outside of Sapporo. Worth the visit and easily accessible by train and bus. The bus stopps at the Museum as well, where you can see some local animals as well as Ainu stuff.
Suggest to purchase the ticket for 1,200 yen for both locations. You can easily walk the distance between the village and the museum within 15 minutes. The Museum closes at 16:30 and you'll probably need 1-1,5h to see everything. For the village you'll need more if you enter every house.

Historical Village of Hokkaido
#thingstodo This is a very large Village with many different historical houses and buildings to explore. The staff are friendly and and whole place is kept neat and tidy. It's very accessible for families with small children however some of the buildings have steps in and out, although ramps are often provided. It takes 2 to 3 hours to enjoy the Village and slightly longer if you intend to eat at the onsite restaurant. This place was incredibly quiet when I visited on a Thursday morning however it is perhaps busier during weekends and holidays.

A peek inside the historical village,Hokkaido
The historical village of Hokkaido shows the lifestyle of the people a hundred years ago. The village was separated into 4 different sections. There were many reconstructed buildings of different shops and residential from the past. If you're into history and buildings, this one is for you.
I want to go to the beach this year.

Anything travels
The Historical Village of Hokkaido
It takes a bit of effort to get to the village and the site itself is fairly large with around 50 buildings total. If you have an interest in history or architecture you’ll love this place. The village has several sections divided into a mountain village, a fishing village, farm village, etc. Be sure to wear easy-to-remove shoes in order to enter the buildings. Slippers are available but if you have regular shoestrings you will get tired of untying or you will skip some of the best parts. You could spend 3 hours here easily. There is a restaurant on-site and the staff is quite helpful.
I want to travel to Palawan this year.
