His Majesty's Theatre is a historic theatre located in London's West End, situated in Haymarket, Westminster. Originally established in 1705, the current building was designed by architect Charles J. Phipps and completed in 1897. As one of London's most renowned theatres, His Majesty's Theatre is classified as a Grade II* listed building in the UK. The theatre's name has changed multiple times according to the gender of the reigning monarch. Initially built in 1705 as "Queen's Theatre," it was renamed "King's Theatre" in 1714 following the accession of George I. In 1837, it became "Her Majesty's Theatre" upon Queen Victoria's accession; in 1901, it was renamed "His Majesty's Theatre" with the accession of Edward VII. In 1952, it reverted to "Her Majesty's Theatre" with Queen Elizabeth II's accession, and in 2022, it was renamed to its current name following the accession of Charles III. Since World War I, His Majesty's Theatre has focused on staging musicals.
