You have to stay at this affordable hotel in Shenzhen
Shenzhen Hilton Hotel Review
I recently went to Shenzhen with my brother-in-law for a staycation and to attend my sister's wedding. We chose the Shenzhen Hilton Hotel because it was close to the subway station, making it convenient to get around, and the price was reasonable at just over 800. However, the actual experience was a mixed bag.
Let's start with the positives. The hotel is in a great location, just a 1-minute walk from Exit 12 of Gangxia North Subway Station, which makes it very convenient for getting around. The weekend breakfast buffet is served until 11 am, which is great for people who like to sleep in. The housekeeping staff were also very friendly and welcoming.
Of course, there were also some things that weren't so great. When we checked in at noon, the hotel didn't manage the queue-jumping very well. There were guests waiting in line at all three counters, and when it was my turn, a man from the next line jumped in front of me, and the front desk staff didn't stop him and served him first. Fortunately, the counter next to me was free, so I was able to check in. The staff member who served me was a woman who spoke very quickly, like she was on 10x speed, and she kept her head down the whole time, so it was hard to hear what she was saying. I had to ask her to repeat herself several times when I asked about breakfast. She wasn't obviously impatient, but she wasn't very friendly either. I told her that she was speaking too fast and that it was hard to hear her, but she ignored me.
I wasn't in a great mood after checking in, so I went out to have some fun. When I got back to my room in the evening, I found that the promised fruit platter hadn't been delivered. I also noticed that the mattress was stained and that the wardrobe and bathroom doors were difficult to open and close, but these were minor issues that I could live with. However, the situation after I took a shower was unacceptable. The shower door wasn't sealed properly, so a lot of water leaked out, soaking the floor around the bathtub and spreading to the door. The towels and slippers were soaked, and I could even wring water out of them.
Overall, my experience at the Shenzhen Hilton Hotel was average. Maybe it's because Shenzhen isn't a traditional tourist city, but my recent experiences at star-rated hotels there haven't been great. Compared to cities like Guangzhou, the service attitude is definitely lacking. However, the hotel rooms are spacious, with a large bed, desk, walk-in closet, and bathroom, and the breakfast is plentiful, with delicious congee in addition to Chinese and Western dishes. If the hotel could improve its service and facilities, it would be worth considering.
