Looking like straight out of a Ghibli film, this is Walthamstow Wetlands on a sunny day.
Welcome to Walthamstow Wetlands, a huge, internationally important reserve. Just 15 minutes from central London, and free to visit, you will find a unique haven to explore, enjoy and connect with nature.
Walthamstow Wetlands is a fully operational 211 hectare Thames Water reservoir site which is the main source of water supply for 3.5 million people. Walthamstow Wetlands is also an internationally important nature reserve, providing home and shelter to a wide range of wildlife, from rare waterfowl to majestic birds of prey.
Walthamstow Wetlands is a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It also forms part of the Lee Valley Special Protection Area and is on the Ramsar List of Wetlands of International Importance.
The ten reservoirs offer a haven for overwintering wildfowl, such as pochard and gadwall, and are regionally important for breeding birds such as grey heron, tufted duck and little egret. Swifts visit during the spring and kingfisher and peregrine falcon can be seen all year round.
In addition to birds, Walthamstow Wetlands is home to invertebrates such as damselflies, dragonflies, speckled wood butterflies and thick-kneed beetles, and a number of different species of bats and amphibians.

God's own junkyard ✨
What if I told you that I have personally been to God's own junkyard? 😉 This is a unique place for neon-art lovers and all things funky in Walthamstow, East London. It is surrounded by drink & food venues, so it is the perfect spot to visit.
Fabulously fluorescent, Gods Own Junkyard is a warehouse stuffed to the rafters with neon film props, vintage signs, and all sorts of groovy decorations.
The story of God’s Own Junkyard is a fascinating one. Late owner Chris Bracey, the ‘Neon Man’, got his start by making signs for Soho’s strip clubs and brothels. Soon, his talents were spotted by Hollywood, and he began fashioning props for directors such as Stanley Kubrick, Tim Burton, and Christopher Nolan.
You can spend hours peeking and prying at the range on offer. Thankfully, if you get hungry, Gods Own Junkyard operate their own on-site café, called The Rolling Scones, which is open for outdoor table service. Alternatively, Wild Card Brewery’s on-site bar is just across the yard, and brilliant gin bar Mother’s Ruin is found next door.

Chingford High
Arriving in Chingford, I was struck by its balance of suburban charm and natural beauty. The town itself was quiet yet inviting, with cozy cafés, traditional pubs, and small shops adding to its character. But the real highlight was Epping Forest, stretching endlessly beyond the town, offering a peaceful escape from city life.
I followed a winding trail into the forest, where the towering trees formed a green canopy overhead. The air was crisp, and the sound of birdsong and rustling leaves filled the silence. Eventually, I reached Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge, a beautifully preserved Tudor building with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Standing there, I imagined the history this place had witnessed, the echoes of the past blending with the stillness of the present.
As the sun began to set, I made my way back through Chingford’s streets, the golden light casting long shadows. The mix of history, nature, and tranquility made the visit feel like a hidden retreat—just a stone’s throw from London, yet a world away from its hustle and bustle.

North Star
Out of two cottages, came one excellent pub, and what a lovely spot the North Star is in too.
In the midst of more small cottages and homes, the pub lights up a little corner of Leytonstone.
Its large and unusual range of pints makes it exceptional among small residential pubs. The covered beer garden, bar area and drinking area behind it, and the front patio create a really strong all round venue. It's even got a picket fence.
But for me it's all the drinks choices. Clearly they change regulary, so get down there and check them out.

The Red Lion
Substantial corner pub which presents itself to you as soon as you come out of the station. The tower, the crest and the lion all mark this place as a long standing local landmark. Indoors is very much shabby-chic, with a three piece suite from circa 1970s offering itself up as you walk in. The windows are huge and ideal for watching the world go by. The whole pub is one room, with exposed wall in some areas, and a collection of ephemera to interest the visitor. There are rooms upstairs if you want to stay the night, and also a ballroom.

A park that is good to go to in London, good for relaxation, good for taking a walk.
I recommend one such park. It is 'Highams Park'. It has beautiful trees and is good for sightseeing, so I recommend it.

London’s favourite hidden gem! God’s Own Junkyard 🌼
#londontravel God’s Own Junkyard in Walthamstow is a vibrant, otherworldly haven that must be seen to be believed. Tucked away in an industrial estate, this dazzling gallery of neon art is a feast for the eyes and a celebration of creativity, making it one of London’s most unique and Instagram-worthy destinations.
The space is packed with hundreds of neon signs, vintage advertising lights, and custom art pieces, all created by the late Chris Bracey, a legendary neon artist. The kaleidoscope of colors and designs is overwhelming in the best way, ranging from retro movie signs to quirky phrases and religious iconography. Each piece tells a story, reflecting decades of craftsmanship and artistry.
The atmosphere is electric yet welcoming, with a café onsite offering coffee, cakes, and light bites to enjoy while soaking in the neon glow. The venue often hosts events, making it a cultural hotspot as well as a visual marvel.
Whether you’re a photographer, an art lover, or just someone looking for a unique day out, God’s Own Junkyard is an unforgettable experience. It’s a reminder that art can be fun, bold, and unapologetically bright, tucked away in one of London’s most creative corners.

if you want to experience real Thai food outside the Thailand, I suggest that you had to #Singburi in Leytonstone, London.
I've had many a dish from here, but highly recommend the saltfish rice along with any of the specials boards features which change every week dependent on available ingredients!
Its a flavor experience with everything you would expect from Thai food. Sour, spicy, sweet, crunchy!

Wow! The flavors are super intense! All the dishes were delicious, no long waits, plenty of space, and they even have a private room that seats 14 people. Their fish curry and shrimp dish were great. The grill platter, lamb shank, and noodles were also top notch. Very satisfied.
High quality, fresh food!

goose walthamstow
#JuneTravelSupportEvent
There is a lovely big pub right next to the basement so it is easy to find. The Goose in Walthamstow is a multi-sports house with lots of cheap beers (only one cask ale was on offer when I visited). The place is bright and airy with a lovely atmosphere. Service is quick and efficient. There is an extensive pub menu with plenty of options to suit your tastes and all very reasonably priced.

This is such a lovely place. Last time I went there with my sister, I ordered a crepe and it was the best I've ever had. The service was great, the people were charismatic and lovely, and the atmosphere itself was really nice. The tables, plates, cutlery, etc. were all polished to perfection! I highly recommend it for a fun outing with friends and family!!

GoQZ offers an impressive dining experience with excellent customer service and immaculate cleanliness. The staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring an enjoyable visit from start to finish. The restaurant itself was spotless and reflected high hygiene standards.
The food was average, but well prepared and presented.

If you sit down at a reasonable time and serve your food, the server will arrive quickly. The problem is that there is a lack of awareness of overcooked or undercooked food.
Some servers are happy, smiling, and helpful, while others do not smile or exude positive energy.
It was okay though.

st katherines docks, london
St. Katharine Docks, nestled in the heart of London, exude charm and history. Established in the 19th century, these docks were once bustling with trade ships from around the world. Today, they've transformed into a vibrant marina and leisure destination, with stylish restaurants, bars, and shops lining the picturesque waterside. The docks offer a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, inviting visitors to stroll along the promenade, admire the yachts, or dine al fresco while taking in the stunning views of Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. Whether you're a history buff, a foodie, or simply seeking a peaceful retreat, St. Katharine Docks captivate with their timeless allure and modern allure alike.#historicallandmarks #localguides

Instagram worthy houses in Nottinghill
#londontrip
One of the highlights at Nottinghill is the rows of colourful houses that line the streets, making this place an instagram worthy spot. Just be sure to not disturb the residents while you are there for the shots.
While there may be many other hidden gems and streets with these colourful houses, I went to Hillgate Street for the houses with soft pastel shades and Lancester Road for the houses with more vibrant crayon-like colours.
