I bought a 3-day pass for the Taiwan Shinkansen. I was able to see Taipei-Tainan-Kaohsiung in one day. I accidentally got on a Shinkansen going in the opposite direction on the way, but it was fine because there were many trains. On the way back from Kaohsiung, I bought an ekiben and got on the train.
