Hanoi Train Street is one of the most unique and thrilling attractions in Vietnam’s capital, where a narrow railway track runs directly through a residential neighborhood, just inches away from homes, cafés, and everyday life. This hidden gem, located in the Old Quarter of Hanoi, offers an unforgettable experience as visitors witness a speeding train pass through the tightly packed alleyways.
📍 Location & Background
- Hanoi Train Street runs between Lê Duẩn and Phùng Hưng streets in the city's historic Old Quarter.
- The railway was originally built during French colonial rule and remains an active train route connecting Hanoi to other parts of Vietnam.
- Trains pass through the area multiple times a day, and residents have adapted their daily lives around the train schedule.
🚂 Thrilling Train Passing Experience
- Visitors typically gather at one of the local cafés along the tracks, where they can enjoy traditional Vietnamese egg coffee while waiting for the train.
- As the train approaches, shopkeepers quickly pull in tables and chairs, and locals move closer to the walls to make way.
- Once the train passes, the street returns to normal in a matter of minutes, with children playing, vendors selling goods, and tourists snapping photos.
Tips:
- Trains generally pass in the afternoon and evening, but schedules can change, so it's best to check locally.
- You need to purchase drinks/snacks/meals from the trackside cafes to take a sit along the railway.
- The best time to visit is before sunset, allowing visitors to experience both daylight and the charming evening atmosphere.

#vietnamtrip
One of the most exciting and unique spots in Hanoi has to be Train Street! Tucked between narrow alleys, this lively street is famous for the train that passes just inches away from cafés and houses—a must-see for any traveler!
We arrived early to grab a seat at one of the cozy trackside cafés, where we enjoyed a cup of traditional egg coffee while waiting for the train. As the time approached, the atmosphere became electric—locals and tourists lined the tracks, cameras ready. Then, out of nowhere, the train roared through, just a few feet away from where we were sitting! The rush of wind and the sheer closeness of the train made it an unforgettable experience.
While some sections of Train Street have restrictions, many cafés still offer access—just check ahead and follow the rules. If you’re in Hanoi, don’t miss this thrilling and iconic experience!

Vietnam🇻🇳Hanoi "Train Street".
In Hanoi, Vietnam, there is a place where people can enter the tracks where only a few trains pass by a day.
There are many cafes along the tracks, and some people are chatting and taking nice photos.
When a train passes, the buildings all move slightly toward each other at the same time, so you can enjoy watching the train pass by.
At night, the lights come on, creating a different atmosphere from the daytime.
Since I'm in Hanoi, I spent a relaxing time drinking Hanoi beer this time 😊

My Journey to Hanoi, Vietnam
#TravelItinerary
A day spent exploring the hustle and bustle of Hanoi, Vietnam
A city with something interesting to photograph around every corner, from the iconic train street to a woman with a shop full of silver kitchenware
Now I’ve only been here for a day so I’m not going to write a full travel guide (because that would be stupid), but here are some recommendations based on how we spent our day:
Ag Hanoi Train Street – We actually visited on a food tour and I really believe that food tours are the best way to experience a new culture and we try to book one almost everywhere we go. The perk of going on a little tour meant we got amazing seats where we could watch the trains go by while sipping on a delicious egg coffee.
Giao Mua – Speaking of coffee, this charming cafe might just be the most beautiful in all of Hanoi and will make you feel like you’re in a hobbit house spread out over several floors in the middle of the city.
Temple of Literature - Home to Vietnam's first national university many years ago, this place has really lovely architecture and it's lovely to see all the students still visiting to wish them luck in their exams.

Train Street Hanoi is the most unique street experience I have ever had. It’s such a fun experience to gather at this place around the train schedule and have a sip of coffee while watching the train pass by. It is such a nice place to experience during spring time. It has a unique charm to it. Also the cafés here serve the best coffee I have ever tasted. Highly recommend trying the egg coffee here. I cant wait to come back here. It is truly iconic in its own way.

DAY 4:
The original itinerary for this morning was canoeing or taking a speedboat cruise at our own expense, but we chose to relax on the private balcony of the Royal Suite and seize the last moment to enjoy the beauty of Halong Bay. After checking out at noon, we returned to the yacht dock and took the pre-booked luxury car back to Hanoi city. When we arrived at Hanoi Railway Station, we first went to the ticket center to store our luggage, and then walked lightly to the ruins of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. Its status is like the Forbidden City in Beijing. Unfortunately, many buildings have been damaged and collapsed after the war, and we can only imagine its splendor from the simulation map. During the Vietnam War, it was used as the command center of North Vietnam, and the underground air defense situation room at that time was preserved. As night fell, we went to the famous Internet celebrity check-in spot-Train Street, where there is a currency exchange office Vàng Bạc Nhật Nam Hùng Thuý, which provides the same exchange rate as XEapp. Friends in need can refer to it. We walked into a ChuChu hidden at the end of the alley. Railways, ordered a cup of egg coffee and passion fruit, watched three trains pass by in front of us in a row, it was very shocking, the alleys near the train street were very lively, delicious food and local snacks, we also tasted CHAO GA (chicken porridge) and MY BO (beef noodles) which were highly recommended by the locals, after eating and drinking, we enjoyed a 60-minute full body essential oil + hot stone massage. If we hadn't taken a night train today, we should have returned to the hotel to rest by this time. At nine o'clock in the evening, the city of Hanoi was still bustling with traffic. After returning to the station, we dragged our luggage and prepared to take the night train to Sapa, a famous mountain town in North Vietnam.
This is our fourth day in North Vietnam. Please follow our steps and come and see this beautiful world together!

Hanoi Phong Hyang Go Seafood Rice Noodles and Go to the Train Cafe
While preparing for my trip to Hanoi, I had planned to visit a restaurant that was featured in Punghyanggo,
I went there for dinner on the third day of my trip to Hanoi.
This place is near the train tracks and the restaurant's name is Duyen Bo
When you say Hanoi rice noodles, it's beef rice noodles, right? I was curious about the seafood one, so I tried it, but honestly, it wasn't my taste. You have to taste it yourself and decide for yourself~ Instead, I like the stir-fried beef noodles👍
For my next course, I went straight to the train tracks cafe street. Here's a tip: at the entrance to the cafe, there will be an aunt or a man who will try to tempt you to go to his shop. Don't follow them, just walk straight in and sit at the shop you like! Also, eat light drinks rather than meals or desserts. It's a little more expensive than other places! It's perfect if you go 30 minutes early. Please refer to the train schedule if you search on Google^^ #Overseas travel #Travel plan #Southeast Asia travel #Vietnam Hanoi travel #Hanoi train #Hanoi Phong Hyang Go Restaurant

Guide to Railway Cafe Street in Hanoi, Vietnam
Train Street in Hanoi, Vietnam is a famous internet celebrity check-in spot in Hanoi, famous for its unique scene of "trains passing through the street". This narrow residential street is lined with cafes, and the train tracks run almost right up against the houses, creating a unique atmosphere that is both dangerous and fascinating.
📍 Location
- Located in Hanoi Old Quarter, there are two main railway cafe streets:
1. Phung Hung Street: Close to Long Bien Bridge, with more trains.
2. Đường Lê Duẩn (Le Duan Street): Close to Hanoi Railway Station, there are many tourists.
 Train passing time
There are usually 1-2 trains per day (specific times may vary, it is recommended to confirm in advance):
- Afternoon session: 15:00-15:30 or 19:00-19:30 (usual times, but not fixed).
- Before the train arrives, local residents will remind tourists to avoid it.
☕ Special Experience
- Railway Cafe: Sit on a low stool next to the track and drink a cup of Vietnamese coffee (egg coffee or iced coconut milk coffee is recommended).
- Take photos: Capture the thrilling moment when the train passes by, or take nostalgic photos of the tracks and old houses.
- Local living atmosphere: Observe how residents live in a small space and experience Hanoi's urban culture.
⚠️ Things to note
1. Safety first: When the train passes by, it is very fast. Be sure to listen to the instructions of the locals and stay away from the tracks.
2. Policy changes: Tourists have been banned from entering in the past for safety reasons. It is recommended to check the latest situation before departure.
3. Respect residents: Avoid making loud noises or obstructing residents’ passage.
🌟 Nearby recommendations
- Đồng Xuân Market: Buy Vietnamese handicrafts.
- St. Joseph's Cathedral (Hanoi Cathedral): French colonial style architecture.
- Hoan Kiem Lake: within walking distance, suitable for an evening stroll.
If you like niche experiences, Railway Cafe Street can let you experience the "magical realism" side of Hanoi. It is recommended to avoid the scorching sun at noon and go there in the early morning or evening when the light is more suitable for taking photos! 📸

Recommended spot if you're going to Hanoi for photos! 🌟
[My trip]
🚶♀️Access:
At first, I was thinking of walking to the cafe in Train Street, but I met a tout on the main street and he guided me to the cafe! He took me to the cafe at the end of Train Street by motorbike 🏍
🏖️Atmosphere/Facilities:
Cafe menu
▶︎They have a menu of Vietnamese coffee and beer ☕
▶︎I ordered Hanoi beer, and it was served right away, good!
Train Street
▶︎The staff will tell you before the train arrives, "Don't go any further than this!"
▶︎The train will pass right in front of you for about 1 minute 🚃
▶︎There are a lot of tourists at 19:00. As it gets closer to 20:00, the number of tourists gradually decreases!
⚠️There are people in Train Street who will call out to you saying "I'm going to take your picture!", but be careful because you may be charged a high price later!
🕰️Business hours: Arrived around 18:45. While I was there for about an hour, I saw three trains that came around 19:00!
📍Location: 3 P. Trần Phú, Hàng Bông, Hoàn Kiếm, Hà Nội 100000 Vietnam
💰Price per person: It is free to go to Train Street itself. If you enter a cafe, you will have to pay for food and drinks or a motorbike transfer to Train Street. I don't remember how much it cost in the end, but you must negotiate! 😂

You can see the train passing right in front of you.
There are also many cafes, so you can sit down at any one of them and have a cup of coffee while enjoying the atmosphere!
The lighting is good, the scenery is good, and it's also great for taking pictures.^^
After having a light meal at a famous restaurant called Nhem Nuong near Hoan Kiem around 5 PM, go to a mango shaved ice shop called Hoa Beo and have mango shaved ice overflowing with mango. Then, walk slowly around the area and walk to the Hanoi train tracks. It will be around 6:30 PM to 7 PM, and it will be the best to see the train passing by against the night view at that time. After the train has passed, come out to the road in front and take a Grab to your accommodation. I hope you have a good trip.

People living along the railway open shops selling food and beverages. They regularly drink tea🍵 and play chess. You can see the way of life of the community along the railway.
There are two popular sections of this railway. Both sides are full of local restaurants and cafes. We recommend sipping egg coffee and waiting to watch the train pass by. In the evening, there is beautiful music.
The train runs from 7:00-23:00. Check the train schedule with the locals and then get close to the train.
We recommend not going outside the designated route and listening for the sound of the bell. Time to pass the fire

A unique and fun attraction in Hanoi
#getgoing2025 #hanoi #trainstreethanoi
Train Street Hanoi is a unique attraction in Hanoi. It is fun to watch a train go by a narrow space occupied by cafes and shops. You can do so while sipping Vietnamese Iced coffee. I must inform you that there are guards who make sure they keep the tourists off the tracks as it’s in close vicinity to the pavement. Also trains don’t pass by all the time. So do check the train schedule and visit around that time. Overall, this is a must visit in Hanoi to get a local experience. I advise visiting during the night time.

Entrance to Hanoi train station
They said there are sides that charge admission and sides that don't,
Based on the center, the side with many cafes is on the right, and the relatively
quiet side is on the left. If you don't plan on going to a cafe,
You can enter from the far left, but then you might have to go around a bit. Anyway, it's worth coming once.

Traditional Snacks with a Modern Twist
#vietnamtrip
During my Vietnam trip, I stumbled upon a unique spot offering traditional Chinese-made snacks—Jipinhe Scones. The vibrant red and gold interior gave off a welcoming vibe that caught my attention.
Curious to try something different, I ordered the New Orleans chicken thigh scone. It was a perfect balance of crispy, flaky pastry filled with flavorful, tender chicken thighs seasoned in a rich New Orleans-style sauce. The scone itself was light and buttery, making each bite absolutely satisfying.
Jipinhe Scones offers a delightful twist to traditional Chinese-style snacks, blending old-school flavors with modern creativity. Definitely a must-try for snack lovers exploring Vietnam!
