Guoen Temple began in the first year of Tang Hongdao (AD 683) and has a history of more than 1,300 years. It is said that it was the former residence of Huineng, the sixth patriarch of Zen Buddhism in the Tang Dynasty, and the place where his body passed away. Guoen Temple, Guangxiao Temple in Guangzhou and Nanhua Temple in Shaoguan are also known as the three ancestral courtyards of Chinese Zen, and some Japanese eminent monks even call it "the ancestral courtyard of the ancestral courtyard". The temple is built on the mountain, and it still retains the architectural characteristics of the Tang Dynasty temple, and it has a Lingnan architectural style due to its careful layout. The environment of the temple is quiet and its incense has been almost uninterrupted for thousands of years. It is a good choice for worshipping Buddha and praying for blessings.
