Hin Ta and Hin Yai Rocks are known as “Grandfather and Grandmother Stones” and are a must-see attraction for visitors interested in photography. The two stones are named for their strange appearance, which resemble male and female genitalia. They are located in the south of Lamai Beach, with the grandfather stone standing straight up, and grandmother stone out in the sea, only visible during low tide. Due to the numerous large stones scattered along the white sandy beach, it is also a popular location for visitors to lay out, slather on some coconut oil and get a golden tan.

Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks
My girlfriend and I recently visited the Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks in Koh Samui, and we had a great time. The rocks are located on the east coast of the island, and they are known for their unusual shapes, which resemble male and female which is why the Thai call them the grandfather and grandmother rocks (cause of course rocks are super old and has always been there!)
I was a little hesitant to visit the rocks at first, but I'm glad I did. They are actually quite beautiful, and they are a popular tourist destination. There is a small shrine located near the rocks, and there are also a few souvenir shops selling trinkets and souvenirs which I highly recommend looking at! Please, you must especially try the local desert/snack there called Kalamea! You won’t be able to find it again and I promise you will love it.
I would recommend visiting the Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks if you are in Koh Samui. They are a unique and interesting sight, and they are sure to make you laugh.
Here are some tips for your visit:
Be respectful of the rocks and the shrine.
Bring water and sunscreen (there is no shade)
Wear proper shoes to walk on the rocks
I hope this helps and I hope you have a great time visiting the Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks if you ever get the chance!

Grandpa and Grandma Stones! 🤭
This two sets of stones became famous in Koh Samui since long time ago becoming an interesting point to visit in the island, specially for young students who are traveling.
Coconut and durian caramel is sold around the site, there is also a conviniance shop to get some water and besides it there's a very chilled bar besides the sea that has an amazing view.

Samui is m
Samui is my all time favorite island 🏝️
the first stop for me must be Lamai, the first destination on this scooter tour are the two famous rocks Hin Ta and Hin Yai. I have been there like 6 times and I do enjoyed the sights and the vibe around.
short story about Hin ta Hin yai :
A very nice outcropping of rocks which lend themselves to use as a trail & photo visit to this Southern portion from Bophut took about 30 min. Well worth it. Lovely selection of stalls selling foods & souvenirs.
and another that I really felt in love with is the rock bar next to Hin ta Hin yai
it’s a relaxing bar built in the rocks to the left of the famous Hin ta Hin yai in Koh Samui. The bar is built from driftwood and recycled materials from the ocean. The decorations are based around the reggae theme. It has a small private beach. The bar has regular live music for the reggae scene that is very unique. The views are spectacular for the many different levels that the bar is built on.
A fabulous bar to relax and chill. 😍🤩🏝️#samui #rockbar

What to do in Samui?
1. Enjoy the beauty of the beaches, whose colors change depending on the light
2. See the blooming lotuses
3. See one or two mummified monks
4. Explore the sculpture park, an abandoned place in the mountains
5. Climb the Lamai and Overlap Stone viewpoints
6. Indulge in coconut and coconut ice cream at the Grandmother and Grandfather rocks
And finally, enjoy the most chill airport in the world, which has no walls, and you can watch the takeoff and landing while swinging on swings or sitting in a chair in the sun

A Koh Samui icon
A trip to see some rocks may not sound like the most enticing idea when holidaying on a tropical Thai island but the Grandfather and Grandmother rocks at the southern end of Koh Samui remain one of its most visited sites.
Their resemblance to certain male and female body parts are seen as good luck and are meant to bring about fertility, whether true or not the area is still a great spot to visit with it’s beautiful beach and the surrounding area also provides some of the best snorkelling around year round #thailand #kohsamui #voyagevibes
