Gongtan, a thousand-year-old town by the Wu River Gallery, hides Chongqing's most pristine beauty.
Tired of the same old tourist traps? Why not visit Gongtan Ancient Town in Chongqing? Here, you'll find the most authentic Bayu customs and traditions.
🚗Getting There
I drove there myself. Starting from downtown Chongqing, I followed the winding mountain roads, and the scenery along the Wu River was so beautiful that I wanted to stop and take pictures. If you don't want to drive, you can take a bus from the Chongqing Sikongli Transportation Hub to Pengshui, and then transfer to Gongtan. Although the journey is a bit bumpy, it's all worth it.
🏮Ancient Town Impressions
As soon as I stepped into the ancient town, the mottled bluestone roads and scattered stilt houses came into view, as if I had traveled back in time to a thousand years ago. The stone road beneath my feet has been polished smooth by time, and every step I took felt the weight of history. The stilt houses built along the Wu River, with their upturned eaves and brackets, exude a simple and elegant atmosphere. Every photo I took turned out great.
🌉Wu River Gallery
You must experience the Wu River Gallery boat tour! The emerald green river water shimmers under the sunlight, and the cliffs on both sides vary in shape and form. Sometimes shrouded in clouds and mist, it looks like a fairyland. Listening to the sound of oars breaking the water and watching the green hills and trees on both sides is truly relaxing.
🍜Food Exploration
The food in the ancient town is also mouthwatering. The mung bean noodles are smooth and refreshing, paired with a delicious saozi soup. One bite is incredibly satisfying. The pan-fried rice tofu is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Dipped in a special chili powder, it's a spicy delight. There are also all kinds of fresh river fish, tender and flavorful.
📸Photo Spots
In front of the ancient town's old opera house, put on some ancient costumes and take some atmospheric photos. Standing by the Wu River, with the river and stilt houses as the backdrop, the photos you take will be stunning. At night, the ancient town is brightly lit. Stand on the bridge and take pictures of the night view, and you'll get amazing shots in minutes.
