In my trip to Kyoto, Ginkaku-ji (officially known as Jisho-ji) left a deep impression on me. This 15th-century temple is renowned for its simple and elegant design, which stands in stark contrast to the opulence of Kinkaku-ji. Walking into the garden of Ginkaku-ji, surrounded by lush green trees and clear ponds, felt like stepping into a tranquil paradise. I strolled around, admiring the exquisite stone garden and moss-covered paths, feeling a sense of calm. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, reflecting on the water's surface, bringing a sense of serenity. The temple's architecture, with its simple wooden structure and intricate details, caught my attention, making me appreciate the aesthetics of traditional Japanese architecture.

Its official name is "Higashiyama Jisho-ji". It is said that the name Ginkakuji came from the Edo period, when it was called Ginkakuji in contrast to Kinkakuji. It originated from the mountain villa Higashiyamaden, built by Ashikaga Yoshimasa, the eighth shogun of the Muromachi shogunate, and was named Jisho-ji after Yoshimasa's death. Yoshimasa, who succeeded to the position of shogun at the age of 15, spent his entire life projecting all of his own aesthetic sense into the temple and creating Higashiyama culture. In front of the Hojo (main hall), there is Ginshadan, a stepped pile of white sand, and the cone-shaped Kogetsudai. There are popular myths that Ginshadan was made to reflect the moonlight, and that Kogetsudai was used to sit on and wait for the moon to rise over Higashiyama. There is also a herring soba restaurant on the way to Ginkakuji. I was able to enjoy some unique Kyoto cuisine.

Entrance fee of 500yen is needed. The temple is small but very very well kept. Once you paid the entrance fee, just follow the designated path to view the place. Ginkaku-ji or the temple of the silver pavilion, are popular names of Jishōji, an important subtemple of the Shōkokuji branch of Rinzai Zen Buddhism located in Kyoto. This villa was inspired by the golden pavilion and is definitely worth a visit. The surrounding garden is most beautiful, my second favourite after Kenroku-en! In recognition of its aesthetic and cultural value, Ginkaku-ji was designated a UNESCO world heritage site in 1994. The route, a one way railed walk through the garden, takes about 30 mins to cover. The wooded grounds covered with a variety of mosses feel absolutely magical, as if a fairy will pop out from behind a tree any moment. At the very start of the route, you will be greeted by the famous sand garden which has sand piles which symbolize Mount Fuji - a beautiful and unique feature. Do not discard your ticket after your visit, you can hang it at the entry to your house as a good luck charm!

Ginkakuji Temple(銀閣寺) is located in Kyoto Japan and was built by Shogun Yoshimasa Ashikaga(足利義政). The construction first started in 1482 and completed in 1490. It is Japan's national treasure as well as UNESCO World Heritage site, along with Kinkakuji Temple(銀閣寺). Not only is the temple beautiful, but the Japanese garden around it is well worth seeing. When you travel to Kyoto, many people go to Kiyomizu-dera, but I highly recommend Ginkaku-ji. Ginkaku-ji was a place that made me feel more at ease and was healing itself. You should set aside at least 1 hour to see all of Ginkaku-ji! In fact, it is no exaggeration to say that I went to Japan to see gardens, but I have visited more than ten temples and gardens, and this is the garden of Ginkakuji that I personally consider to be in my top three. It is also called Ginkakuji! It is connected to the Philosopher's Path, so after visiting Ginkakuji, I went all the way down the Philosopher's Path and enjoyed the scenery and atmosphere. I walked past the Philosopher's Path and all the way to Nanzenji :-) There was also strawberry tanghulu? on the way down from the entrance of Ginkakuji, so I bought some, and the strawberries were very sweet, but they were delicious. It is a really beautiful garden! If you go to Kyoto, you should definitely visit. And I hope you can enjoy the scenery slowly :-) (Note: Walking the Philosopher's Path with a stroller may not be easy because the floor is rocky!) "Ginkaku-ji Temple" is definitely one of the most familiar attractions in Kyoto and is often mentioned in the same breath as "Kinkaku-ji Temple". The official name of "Ginkakuji" is "Jishoji". It is said that the general "Ashikaga Yoshimasa" at that time wanted to build a villa comparable to "Kitazanden" (i.e. "Kinkakuji"), so he built "Higashiyamaden". After the death of "Ashikaga Yoshimasa", his descendants converted "Higashiyamaden" into a temple, namely "Jishoji". The Guanyin Hall of "Jishoji" was called "Ginkaku", and because of its correspondence with "Kinkakuji", it became the general name of "Ginkakuji". Although it is called the "Silver Pavilion", it is not as magnificent as the "Kinkaku-ji Temple". One theory is that the temple is not covered with silver foil because of financial constraints, while another theory is that there was no plan to use silver foil from the beginning of its design. However, the actual reason is unknown. Although there is no silver foil on it, it does not detract from its beauty. The Silver Pavilion can be divided into two areas, the mountain and the foot of the mountain. The garden at the foot of the mountain is centered on the Kinkyō Pond. In addition to the Guanyin Hall, the Silver Sand Beach and the Moon-facing Platform by the pond are also eye-catching. From the garden, you can walk along the mountain path to the observation deck, where you can have a panoramic view of the temple grounds. The beauty of the garden is further enhanced by the autumn leaves. The last thing to mention is of course the "Silver Pavilion", which has an elegant and simple architectural style. I never thought I’d be able to visit my dream place. Although it was rainy, the beauty of the temple glowed even more. The temple used to be a Family Villa of a Shogun (Samurai Head). When the Shogun died, he ordered to transform it into a temple. The place is well-kept. There are signs and guides and security staff that help maintain its serenity. As visitors it is our obligation to avoid making loud noises and leaving trash behind. Right before exiting the temple, there’s a tea house where you can try the temple’s sweets speciality for only 500¥/5$. Again, when inside the tea house, maintain silence. Higashiyama Jisho-ji or must known as Ginkakuji meaning Temple of Silver Pavillon located at Kyoto, Japan. With its moss covered gardens, bamboo groves, and interesting dry-sand garden, it is perfectly describe “simplicity is beauty”.
