We originally just wanted to take a photo with Spirited Away Tower, but were intoxicated by its slowness and tranquility. It was like a gentle Jiangnan woman, telling us stories in a leisurely manner. If you come to Gaomiao, you might as well stay for a couple of days and become a resident of an ancient town in the mountains. Gaomiao Ancient Town is located in Hongya County, Meishan. It was built in the late Ming Dynasty and has a history of about 700 years. It is considered to be the best-preserved ancient town in the mountain area. Wooden blue-tiled houses and stilt houses can be seen everywhere on both sides of the ancient street. The ancient streets and alleys, blue bricks and gray tiles are all filled with the vicissitudes of the ancient town. Perhaps it is the terrain surrounded by mountains that makes it rainy, and the whole ancient town seems even more quiet. The "ancient" here is not only in the buildings, but also in the people. For some reason, almost all the people left in the town are middle-aged and elderly. In the evening, when the street lights come on, people come in groups of three or four and bring stools to chat about family matters. It reminds people of the time when they were children at their grandparents' house, pulling a mat and listening to adults chatting on the grass. There is a rare and primitive happiness! The last time I had this feeling was in Zhaoxing Dong Village. There are very few tourists here, so there is really no trace of worldly commercial atmosphere. It was named after the ancient land temple at the highest point of the old street. It was gradually improved in the Qing Dynasty. It is an important node on the tourist transportation route of Mount Emei, Leshan Giant Buddha and Wawushan Forest Park. It was not until the fourth year of Hongwu in the early Ming Dynasty (1371 AD) that it was called "Gaomiao".
