Shangri-La is one of my dream place must visit and I make it. Love everything there like the transitional Tibetan city, food, culture and vibe. One of the popular place must visit is the Ganden Sumtseling Monastery. It is a beautiful Tibetan Buddhist monastery situated around 5KM from the city of Shangri-La at elevation 3,380 metres in Yunnan province. It has long history because build in 1679 and it is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan province. The outlook from far actually look like the Tibet’s Potala Place, therefore sometimes people will referred it as the Little Potala Palace. You also can renting the Tibetan transitional costume to wear and acting become a local people to visit the temple. The renting costume is shangri-la is so professional, they will help you make up with accessories. #discoverchina Even though it has the title of The Little Potala Palace, there was nothing little about this monastery that is painted in bright yellow and orange and its gold coated roof ornaments, each with its own meaning and representation. The pricier ticket comes with a bus service and a guide who detailedly explains every single major painting or history (which I had to skip most of due to time constraints) but you do have to climb about 100 steps up to the monastery in the thin air so do bring your oxygen containers. The view from the balcony of the main hall is stunning: the wetlands, the tiny village in which the monks live, the golden statutes, and the monks below performing rituals.
