⛩️Futenmangu Shrine-A Very Quiet Shrine⛩️Built of wood, you can smell the fragrance of cypress when you approach. It is located in Futenma, Ginowan City, Okinawa Prefecture. It is one of the eight major shrines in Okinawa. The king of the Ryukyu Dynasty built this Futenmangu Shrine in the underground stalactite cave and visited this place on the 15th day of the ninth month of the lunar calendar every year to perform the "Futenmangu Worship". It is known as the largest holy place in central Okinawa Prefecture, the "Futenmangu Cave (city-designated cultural property "scenic spot")". To enter the cave, you must register first and be led by a shrine maiden to enter the underground shrine. The sign-up sheet for the cave tour is in a room on the other side of the sign that tells you that signing up is required (look to your right to see the sliding door). Tours are supposed to leave every 20 minutes. Parking is free and to the right of the shrine up a narrow road. Multiple tiers are available so there should be space. There is no cost to the shrine or the cave. No photos allowed in the cave - please be respectful. I appreciate that you can walk along the cave, inches from stalagmites, and not see any initials carved into them or other defacement.
