Day trip in Montreux, raining, early October 2024. Little charming town as their main language is French. Stayed overnight at hotel J5 Hotels Helvetie MONTREUX, the hotel has conserved all its old-world charm since 1800s and room is well furnished and cozy, along with a small balcony where you may see church Église du Sacré-Cœur Catholic Church beside hotel. Upon check-in any hotel Montreux, you will be given a Montreux Riviera Card: a real key that gives you free travel on public transport and discounts on many activities or you may use your Swiss pass to have the same privileges. Head off towards Chillon Castle (château de Chillon in French) via bus from the hotel. It is located on the shores of Lake Geneva, near Montreux in Veytaux, Switzerland. It offers historic exhibitions in the castle and requires around 2 hours to explore. An audio guide can be rent from the souvenir store before you proceed to explore the place. Chill at the cafe at the entrance of castle for a coffee break, they have indoor and outdoor seatings. Next I took a bus ride for Musée de Montreux visit, which shared the historic of Montreux from Neolithic times to the golden age. You will need at least an hour to complete the exhibition, most description are not explained in English language and they don’t have the audio guide. After complete, I walked down the little hillslope and went for a coffee break at one of the cafe near railway station, sat near to the window enjoying the moment. As the day going to end, walk over towards lake Geneva, stroll along the lake where you may see the famous statues of Freddie Mercury statue and Statue Les Amoureux. You will be greeted by the stunning panoramic views of the lake and wait for the sunset view, before ending the day.

A tribute to Freddie Mercury in Montreux 🇨🇭
#timetotravel
Last winter, we travelled from Zurich to Geneva and had a stopover in Montreux.
Since Freddie Mercury State is located on the shore of Lake Geneva in Montreux, and we do enjoy songs by Queen, we decided to visit the statute and pay our respects.
Not knowing much about Queen apart from their songs, I was confused why was there a statute of Freddie Mercury in Montreux. After some research, I found out that Freddie had lived in Montreux and really enjoyed the town because of its tranquility which gives him a peace of mind; Queen also recorded six albums in Montreux.
I have to say I very much agree with Freddie, Montreux is really a peaceful small town which offers stunning views of the Swiss Alps.
Definitely do not miss out on Montreux when you are planning your visits in Switzerland/ France, and while you are at it, do not miss out on the Freddie Mercury Statute.
