The Lion Dance Martial Arts. Originated from Foshan and spread out the southern China, this performance is breathtaking and requires high level of skills and outstanding physical training results. Generally speaking, it is performed during Chinese New Year or Spring Festival according traditions. Where to see? The best one I think is being performed at Foshan Ancestral Temple complex, there is a small square with scene.
Yes, these guys are sacrificing their knees for art!
A Day Trip to Foshan Ancestral Temple: Cultural Heritage, Lion Dance Performance, and Experiencing the Charm of Foshan
The Ancestral Temple is located in the center of Foshan and is one of the most famous cultural attractions in the area. The temple's architecture is ancient and elegant, with intricate carvings and paintings that showcase the exquisite craftsmanship of artisans. Inside the Ancestral Temple, I visited various exhibition halls and learned about the history, cultural heritage, and folk customs of Foshan. The exquisite porcelain, wood carvings, and embroidery gave me a deeper understanding of Foshan's traditional crafts. In addition to cultural exhibitions, the Ancestral Temple also preserves traditional sacrificial activities. I was fortunate to watch an impressive lion dance performance, where the vivid imagery and agile movements allowed me to experience the charm of Foshan's folk culture.

The Ancestral Temple Museum.
The Ancestral Temple Museum is a folk museum that integrates the ancient architectural art of the Ming and Qing dynasties and the traditional culture of Foshan. Its jurisdiction includes the Ancestral Temple ancient architectural complex, Confucius Temple, Huang Feihong Memorial Hall, and Yip Man Hall. Among them, the Ancestral Temple, which enshrines the Taoist deity Zhenwu Xuantianshangdi, was built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1078-1085) and is a national key cultural relic protection unit. The Confucius Temple was built in the third year of the Xuantong period of the Qing Dynasty (1911) and served as a place to honor Confucius in the late Qing and early Republic periods. It is a cultural relic protection unit of Foshan City. The Huang Feihong Memorial Hall and Yip Man Hall, commemorating the famous martial artists Huang Feihong and Yip Man from Foshan, were opened to the public in 2001.
The museum's collection mainly consists of Taoist and Foshan local folk cultural relics. Our basic exhibitions fully showcase Taoist culture, martial arts culture, and Foshan folk art, among other folk cultures. Every year, we hold influential folk cultural activities such as the Spring Festival Blessing, the "March 3rd" Beidi Birthday, the Village Drinking Ceremony, and the Spring and Autumn Sacrificial Rites. The museum also hosts long-term dynamic folk cultural display activities such as the "Confucius Temple Student Initiation Ceremony," "Huang Feihong Lion Dance Performance," and "Cantonese Opera Performance." By introducing and hosting high-quality exhibitions, we continuously enrich our exhibition resources. In terms of academic research, in recent years, our museum has published works such as "The Center and the Symbol—The History, Art, and Society of the Foshan Ancestral Temple," "Foshan Ancestral Temple," "Ancient Charm and Porcelain Style," and "The Legend of the Ancestral Temple."

Life is like lion dancing, going up and down the mountains
➠ 🦁️ Lion Dance ››››
In this life, it's like lion dancing, going up and down the mountains.
You may not always win!
But, you must never give up!
"Southern Lion", also known as "Awakened Lion", is a Han Chinese folk culture that integrates martial arts, dance, and music.
The Awakened Lion was originally called the Auspicious Lion, symbolizing good fortune and wishes, until the flames of the Opium Wars spread to the south. The people of Foshan, with a sense of national crisis, changed it from 'Auspicious' to 'Awakened' due to the dialect homophone of 'Auspicious' sounding like 'sleep', implying the awakening of the lion and the spirit of the nation, and to invigorate the spirit with drumming.
From then on,
"Where there are Chinese, there must be Awakened Lions",
becoming an important ritual to promote the might of the nation and establish the spirit of China!
It's not about what you think,
I care about what I think,
As long as there is lion dancing in the heart,
Anywhere can be a stage!

Everyone knows about the lion dance performance: the unique charm of the Foshan Ancestral Temple
😀Foshan | You must see the lion dance performance when you visit the Ancestral Temple‼️
The lion dance🦁 in Foshan is very famous, and I have always wanted to see it.
There aren't too many people in the morning.
But you still need to queue up to watch the lion dance🎉.
Here are a few pieces of advice for everyone📋:
1. 💪Try to come in the morning to watch the lion dance, because the performance is more vigorous then, and in the afternoon the lions might not climb the poles.
2. 👀Try to watch the 11:00-11:30 performance, because after it ends, you can take pictures with the awakened lions📷 at will; other sessions will clear the area.
3. If you don't want to waste time queuing and just want to take photos of the awakened lions, you can wait around 11:20-11:30 after the performance ends🎪 to go directly to the venue to take photos.
In short, the performance is quite interesting😄, and the young man is very energetic and handsome.
If you have time, you can come and watch🤗!

Half-Day Tour in Foshan Chancheng | Expanding the Weekend Relaxation of Old Cantonese
As an old Cantonese, when you don't want to stay in Guangzhou for the weekend and want to go out for a stroll but don't want to go 'too far away', the first place you think of is definitely Foshan. Although Foshan might eventually be fully explored, there are still some places that are worth visiting over and over again. Yes, I'm talking about the line from Zu Temple to Lingnan Tiandi.
Zu Temple is a place you can't get enough of, and every time you come back, you feel like you missed something the last time. This is not surprising, after all, although Zu Temple was originally dedicated to Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism came later, and after the integration of Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism, martial artists like Wong Fei-hung and Ip Man also arrived, and now there's even an exhibition hall displaying weapons (Sun Tzu?), the small Zu Temple embodies the inclusiveness of the Cantonese people very well.
The characteristics of Lingnan architecture are certainly another part that dazzles you. After spending half a day in Zu Temple, absorbing the essence of gray sculpture, pottery sculpture, brick carving, and wood carving, you take a few steps to the neighboring Lingnan Tiandi to experience the charm of the new Lingnan art, and the relaxation of the weekend naturally arises.
Wandering through the streets and alleys of Lingnan Tiandi, sipping a cup of coffee under the banyan trees, enjoying a pleasant dinner in the soft night, the energy of the old Cantonese is replenished, ready to face the end of the week and the beginning of a new one.

Huang Feihong Lion Dance at Foshan 🔥
#winhkflight
Dancing lion and Kungfu at Foshan Zumiao. Featuring traditional Kungfu from Huang Feihong and Ip Man, the famous masters. There are performances scheduled, check the time and don’t miss it !
The Ancestral Temple, or Zumiao, is the prime tourist attraction in Foshan. Apart from the historic Taoist temple, the whole area offers a glimpse of local history and culture. The small museums of Huang Feihong and Ip Man tell the life and influence of kung fu masters. Quite interesting and informative for tourists.
I want to explore Hong Kong, where many Chiymasters lived before.

Foshan Ancestral Temple
The Foshan Ancestral Temple, also known as the 'Beidi Temple' or 'Lingying Temple', is dedicated to the Taoist deity Zhenwu, the Dark Warrior or the Perfect Warrior, who is also known as the Xuantian Shangdi. It was originally built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty. It is a product of the Beidi worship brought by the Central Plains people who migrated south to Lingnan. By the early Qing Dynasty, it had gradually become a temple with a complete system, strict structure, and strong local characteristics.

Foshan Ancestral Temple
Arrived at Foshan Ancestral Temple on the afternoon of February 11, 2024, online ticket purchase is 16 yuan, it's a refreshing experience for northerners.
Foshan Ancestral Temple, also known as 'Beidi Temple' or 'Lingying Shrine', is located at No. 21, Zumiao Road, Chancheng District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. It worships the Taoist deity Zhenwu Xuantian, and was established during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty. It is a product of the worship of the Northern Emperor brought by the people of the Central Plains when they migrated to Lingnan. The Foshan Ancestral Temple complex covers an area of 3500 square meters, consisting of buildings arranged on the north-south axis, including Wanfu Platform, Lingying Archway, Jinxiang Pool, Bell and Drum Tower, Three Gates, Front Hall, Main Hall, and Qingzhen Tower. The temple is mostly made of wood and stone materials, with mortise and tenon joints made of solid wood for the bucket arches and beam frames. The ridge of the hall is decorated with Shiwan pottery (ridge figurines), and the surrounding walls are inlaid with a large number of brick carvings and gray carvings. The hall is furnished with wood carvings, stone carvings, iron castings, copper castings, and tin castings, making it a veritable art palace.
The most touching for me are the ridge pottery and brick carvings. However, such a place is suitable for fewer people to come and slowly gaze at the time.

The light and shadow of the Foshan Ancestral Temple
The Foshan Ancestral Temple, also known as the 'Northern Emperor Temple' or 'Lingying Shrine', is a famous historical site and tourist attraction in Foshan. It was built during the Yuanfeng period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1078-1085), destroyed by fire at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, and rebuilt in the fifth year of the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty (1372). Since then, it has undergone more than 20 renovations and expansions, and was fully renovated in the 25th year of the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1899). According to the 'Foshan Loyal and Righteous Hometown Records', the temple 'has been called the ancestral hall or ancestral temple from the Yuan to the Ming Dynasty, because it has a long history and is the head of all temples.' Therefore, it has been regarded as the ancestor of hundreds of local temples throughout the ages.
