The Kyu-Furukawa Gardens in Kita-ku, Tokyo, are a place where many varieties of roses are in full bloom. It wasn't the season for roses to bloom, so I just looked around at the information boards for the varieties, but it was a garden where many rose varieties were planted and well-maintained. The reason there are significant differences in elevation is because it uses the slope of the Musashino Plateau. The north side, the hill and the slope, are a Western-style garden. The lowlands are a Japanese garden. It is a valuable garden that retains the original form of the gardens from the early Taisho period. It has been designated a national scenic spot under the Cultural Properties Protection Act. It depends on the season, but for example, flowers that can be seen in spring are plum blossoms, azaleas, and roses, things that can be seen are cherry blossoms, irises, and bottlebrushes, and there is an event called the Spring Rose Festival, which will be held in May. The Japanese garden was worked on by Jibei Ogawa, the seventh generation Ueharu, a Kyoto gardener who also built Heian Jingu Shrine and Maruyama Park.
