Taining is a small town in the Northern part of Fujian province, China. It is surrounded by beautiful bamboo forests and lakes. The most popular being the Big Golden Lake. There are plenty of sights to see around the lake, including Baxian cliff, Jinrao mountain and a beautiful natural waterfall. My personal favorite was Ganlu Rock Temple. It is a temple built into the caves of the mountain. The architecture and construction is breathtaking, and people used to live there. Our tour guide believes that the monks still live there today. The temple is situated in the mountain, so be prepared to climb a few steps. The temple and other attractions are not accessible by car, so one needs to take a guided boat tour to get there. The boat departs from the docks in Jiaojiao Fishing Village (10 minute taxi ride from Taining town), and the tour is 3 hours. The boat stops at 3 scenic spots, where you will have plenty of time to explore the sights. Taining is perfect for a leisure weekend filled with history and culture. | Ganlu Rock Temple is located on the west bank of Jinhu Lake in Taining, Fujian. The temple is built in a natural cave on a cliff, which is over 80 meters high and more than 20 meters wide and deep. It was built in the Southern Song Dynasty and has a history of over 870 years. It is said to have been built by the top scholar Ye Zuqia to fulfill his mother's long-cherished wish. The temple is made of wood and connected by T-shaped arches without a single iron nail. The most ingenious part is that the entire temple is supported by a single fir pillar about 30 meters high and 3.38 meters in circumference, with a unique structure of "a single pillar inserted into the ground, without a single tile," making it a wonder of architecture throughout history.
