The World Irrigation Project Heritage Fengyan Terraces welcome the harvest season.
The Fengyan Terraces in Hanyin, Shaanxi, which were successfully included in the 2024 (11th batch) World Irrigation Project Heritage List, recently welcomed the harvest season. Farmers are busy harvesting mature rice on the terraces. The beautiful scenery and rich cultural landscape during the harvest season have attracted many tourists to visit and experience. The Fengyan Terraces are located in Hanyin County, at the southern foot of the Qinling Mountains. The ancestors of Hanyin in the past dynasties built terraces along the mountains and formed a "field, canal, pond, stream" irrigation system.

Visit the ancient Fengyan terraces to see the rapeseed flowers dance in Jiangxi Duchang as the grey cranes take flight
First photo:
Fengyan ancient terraces: ~~~ The rapeseed flowers of the Fengyan terraces crisscross, beautiful up to the clouds, layer upon layer upon the distant mountains, winding and meandering around the clouds.
The ancient Fengyan terraces located in Xuanwo Town, Hanyin County, southern Shaanxi, are blooming with rapeseed flowers.
Standing on the high hills, overlooking the terraces, with paths crisscrossing, houses scattered, and the golden rapeseed flowers, they form a fresh and natural spring scenery.
What's more important is that such a beautiful place does not charge an entrance fee, it's free to visit ~~~ Photographed in Yanping Village
Photos 2-6:
Grey cranes ~~~ Photographed in Jiangxi Duchang
Eight or nine grey cranes, dancing gracefully above our heads, circling and flying. Clearly, they are chasing each other, dancing, and endlessly competing, engaging in a marathon-like endurance and dance skill contest.
Now is the breeding season for the grey cranes, and it is also a great opportunity for them to dance passionately and show off their skills.
At this moment, the grey cranes are like crazy, utterly obsessed, and wholeheartedly devoted to an endless dance.
Now, in the Duchang County Migratory Bird Sanctuary in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, the water pepper flowers are in full bloom, and the national second-class protected animals, the grey cranes, have also gathered here. It is reported that there are more than 1,000.
The grey cranes fly in groups from the north to the Poyang Lake wetlands in Duchang to forage, with Duchang being the first stop. At present, the grey cranes are relatively concentrated; as more migratory birds arrive and food becomes scarcer, the grey cranes will gradually disperse to forage.
It is introduced that the grey cranes mainly feed on the rhizomes of plants such as water pepper grass and generally do not eat fish.

Wandering along the Moon River, one can admire the sea of rapeseed flowers in the ancient Fengyan terraced fields from the Qing Dynasty
Spring is a restless season, with peach blossoms and willows turning green, and a myriad of flowers vying for beauty. As the spring breeze blows, the fertile fields for thousands of miles suddenly burst into a sea of flowers, painting a myriad of springtime scenes across the human world. Distant mountains hold a hint of indigo, streams carry affection, villages are quaint, fields are vast, all interwoven into a beautiful and fresh pastoral painting. The rapeseed flowers that cover the hills and fields are dazzlingly golden, exuding a faint fragrance that refreshes the heart and spleen, while orioles sing and swallows dance, willows turn green and peach blossoms red, creating a paradise on earth.
The ancient Fengyan terraced fields are located in Xuanwo Town, Hanyin County, Hanzhong City, Shaanxi Province, covering more than 12,000 acres. They are over 250 years old and rely on the natural flow of water from the streams of Huanglong, Cigou, Lengshui, and Longwang for irrigation. The babbling water flows all year round, making it the largest and best-preserved Qing Dynasty terraced field discovered in the Qinba mountain area.
Standing above the terraced fields, one is struck by the impressive scene. The Fengyan terraced fields are the largest and best-preserved Qing Dynasty terraced fields discovered in the Qinba mountain area to date. In 2010, the ancient Fengyan terraced fields were named one of the 'Top Ten New Discoveries' in Shaanxi Province's third national cultural relics survey. Here, with natural landscapes as the backdrop, ancient terraced fields as exhibits, and local customs as an accompaniment, it is an open scenic area that protects and displays the traditional agricultural civilization and production methods.
The ancient terraced fields of the Ming Dynasty, covering ten thousand acres, are located in Huanglong Village and Yanping Village of Xuanwo Town, Hanyin County. They were built during the Qing Dynasty and integrate 'mountains, water, fields, houses, forts, villages, temples, and agriculture' into one, embodying 'robustness, elegance, curiosity, freshness, and grandeur'. The ecological environment here is beautiful, with dense terraced fields, primitive shapes, crisscrossing paths, smooth lines, tall mountains, long waters, and staggered plank houses, fully showcasing the natural beauty, simplicity, form, and cultural beauty of the terraced fields.
In March, the ancient Fengyan terraced fields will dazzle your eyes.

Fengyan Ancient Terraces are known as the living fossils of the farming era, dating back 250 years, and are most beautiful in spring and autumn
The ancient terraces of the Qing Dynasty in Fengyan, Ankang, have a large area of rapeseed flowers. Every spring, the crisscrossing layers of rapeseed flower sea attract many people to come and watch.
This spring, I drove here early in the morning, braving the drizzle from Hanyin to the Fengyan Ancient Terraces in Xuanwo Town, located in the Qinba Mountain area, to watch the ancient terraces built by the Wu family from Shanhua County, Changsha Prefecture, Hunan, who moved there during the Qianlong period, which have a history of 250 years.
Fengyan Ancient Terraces are different from the Longji Terraces in Guangxi. They are hidden in the deep mountains and are known as the living fossils of the farming era. Along the winding mountain road, you can see the lush bamboo forests, the drizzle mixed with thick fog, like a dream; the sunrise in the east and the rain in the west, the sea of clouds and the rapeseed flower terraces that appear and disappear from time to time. Along the way, I couldn't help but stop the car to overlook or look far away, admiring the beauty of nature and the wisdom of human beings in opening up mountains and fields, and the poetic rural beauty left to the world.
When the car went down to the bottom of the mountain, a large area of rapeseed flowers was displayed in front of me, and I was very excited. Despite the drizzle, I couldn't help but take out the drone to hurriedly shoot a few beautiful scenes, and I was very happy to go down the mountain.
Because I was going to Shiquan, under the guidance of the villagers, the car followed the rapeseed flower sea on both sides, and then entered a national road leading to Shiquan, reluctantly leaving Xuanwo Town.
Fengyan Ancient Terraces in Xuanwo Town, if time permits, it is worth playing for a day. This time because of the rain, I hurriedly watched the terraced rapeseed flowers, and didn't have time to see the several attractions during the period. I can only leave some regrets and wait for the next visit.
