The Portuguese Pavilion for Expo 1998 is located along the Tagus River and consists of two separate parts combined. One is a large square in the south, located on the north side, and the south side is connected by two large porches, inlaid with tiles of various colors. Between the two parts is a curved concrete canopy, which was a popular awning style at the time. The other part is the design of a regular building. The three-story building is built around a patio with a large tree in it. The north entrance of the building faces a U-shaped open space. This location of the Portuguese Pavilion was once the site of severe environmental damage from factories such as weapons manufacturing plants and oil refineries.
