It is the coastal wind – the beautifully named alizee, or taros in Berber – that has allowed Essaouira (essa-weera, or es-sweera in Arabic) to retain its traditional culture and character. For most of the year, the wind blows so hard here that relaxing on the beach is impossible, meaning that the town is bypassed by the hordes of beach tourists who descend on other Atlantic Coast destinations in summer. Known as the ‘Wind City of Africa’, it attracts plenty of windsurfers between April and November, but the majority of visitors come here in spring and autumn to wander through the spice-scented lanes and palm-lined avenues of the fortified medina, browse the many art galleries and boutiques, relax in some of the country's best hotels and watch fishing nets being mended and traditional boats being constructed in the hugely atmospheric port. Essaouira lies on the crossroads between two tribes: the Arab Chiadma to the north and the Haha Berbers in the south. Add to that the Gnawa, who came originally from further south in Africa, and the Europeans, and you get a rich cultural mix.

There are two levels to this fortification you can check out. The ground level that was used as a military storage area, now filled with little shops selling handicrafts, souvenirs. The top levels have bronze cannons and great views out to the sea, harbour. Walking along this area, you will be transported to the scene Games of Thrones that was shot on this spot. Only sounds of the waves crashing against the fortress and the sound of the seagulls permeated through the air. It was absolutely magical.

In between cafes and restaurants you are invited to take a break, offering food and drinks. You can rent surfboards or beach chairs at one of the counters, activities like horseback riding, camel rides, quad tours can also be arranged. A real highlight is also the 5 kilometers long beach promenade, which encants with a magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean. Locals and tourists stroll up and down here, enjoying the view and watching the lively beach life, people dancing and playing along the promenade and beach.

#celebratewithtrip Place Moulay Hassan is one of the most beautiful squares in between the port and the medina in Essaouira. Vendors selling their handicrafts in the square, groups of friends and families with their children stroll around there, with their children chasing pigeons and cats around there. View of the sea, there are cafes and restaurants around there, i visited Bab Laachour for my lunch, Bolognese Spaghetti and Prawn Omelette. At the end of the square, there are fish market stalls that are pretty much selling the same things, only you need to choose which one is fresher and cheaper.

When you come to Morocco, you must visit Essaouira on the Atlantic Ocean. Here’s why 👇🏻 1. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. 2. In 2012, the ancient city was selected by CNN Travel as one of the top ten most beautiful small towns in the world. 3. Due to its geographical location, it has become a famous windsurfing center in Morocco and has earned the reputation of "African Wind City". Essaouira means "little picture", "well-designed" or "picturesque" in Arabic. In fact, as its name suggests, although the city is small in size, it attracts many photographers and filmmakers every year to shoot pictures with its beautiful natural harbor and sea views. Although history books indicate that records of the city date back to the 1700s, the town's history is much older than that. As early as the 15th century, the Portuguese, who invaded one of the Moroccan coasts, had already built a huge stone wall here, a fortress that still surrounds the medina today. I walked around the town of Essaouira and along the coast! Essaouira is a city with a pleasant sea breeze. The old town is surrounded by walls, but it has a nice atmosphere and is a popular sinking spot for travelers. The main street is full of shops, stalls, and people, making it a fun place that feels like Morocco. We came to the fishing port of Essaouira! The market is open every day at the fishing port of Essaouira, and seafood caught that day is lined up every day. There are rare fish such as sharks and rays that are lined up in the market, so it's fun just to look at them. There are also shops that serve marinated fish in snack sizes for alcohol, and shops that crush sea urchins on the spot. It is open all day, but early in the morning, fresh fish is lined up, so be sure to go early in the morning. This is the city of Essaouira in Morocco. You can witness very beautiful views. You can listen to the waves of the Atlantic Ocean

Generally speaking, the scenery on the west coast of Morocco is unique and beautiful, especially the one from El Jadida to Essaouira, and the one from Essaouira to Agadir is slightly inferior. Along this coastline, there are both gentle sandy beaches for people to play and swim, and steep mountains covered with sharp green shrubs. Sometimes, desolate plains with bare red soil come into view, and sometimes, there are tender green vegetable fields that are carefully surrounded by reeds by farmers to block the raging dust... The scenery always changes back and forth between colorful colors and undulating terrain. We expected it to be amazing, but we didn’t expect it to be so enjoyable! Looking back, I saw a long road winding gracefully into the distance. Children riding donkeys were swaying back and forth, condensing into a small black dot at the end of the horizon. The sky was so blue that it seemed unreal! The white tower of the temple stands alone on the side of the cliff, and the ground is littered with broken wine bottle slag. It is hard to imagine that in such a Muslim country where religion is supreme, people's way of relieving sorrow or pleasing themselves is to drink heavily! At the bottom of the mountain, at the edge of the town, filthy, blackened tents were set up one after another, and waves like cloth were trying to submerge the houses in front of them. The market life that I had seen in old photos suddenly appeared before my eyes. I felt as if I had traveled back to 19th century Morocco and quickly pressed the button on my phone. The further south you go, the more monotonous and sparse the vegetation becomes, but it still has its own style, "individuality creates beauty"! Around Agadir, you have arrived in a pure tourist world, a tourist's "paradise"!

If you look down on Essaouira from the sky, you will find that it looks like a pomfret fish head with its mouth open. The beautiful crescent-shaped arc of the fish's mouth is the famous bay for surfing and windsurfing enthusiasts. When the sun is overhead, windsurfers slowly gather here and ride the wind in the milky white waves. The wind here never seems to tire, always blowing, and the surfers in the sea are excited by the tall waves, screaming with excitement. The windsurfing boards shuttle back and forth on the water like flying shuttles, dazzling people. The Windy City - Essaouira! The current city of Essaouira was built in the 18th century. The fortress and city were designed and built by the French slaves of the Moroccan sultan and several other European architects and technicians. In the mid-19th century, the French occupied the area, so the style of the old city became a mix, with the call to prayer from the mosque and the church bells ringing in turn, each in its place, without disturbing each other. Passing through the square in the city, out of the city gate, turn right along the tall light brown city wall to the seaside, the shadow of the palm trees on the wall swaying in the wind like a crazy woman with disheveled hair, and the wild cats have found the best place to sunbathe and doze off, the wind blowing their fur up can't disturb their good mood! Keep your mouth shut and continue to the seaside, your teeth still chattering. When you reach the seaside, turn right again, the wind somehow changes direction, and the sand on the beach is blown into strands, then quickly drawn into the sea as if by some mysterious force. When you reach the vicinity of the Saivelo Arch, the fishermen have already docked and the fish market is full of various fresh fish for sale. Flocks of seagulls gather around the fish market, hoping to get something for nothing. Some fishermen sit on the ground mending fishing nets; some are cleaning fish; some are driving small boats into the inner harbor to dock, there is always something to do! My favorite is the sea of Essaouira, the wind of Essaouira!

The hippy capital in earth ! Essaouira is a place where you go and never want to go away . The music spirit and the hippie style of the locals makes it even more interesting . The food oh my god each seafood dish we had was epic ! Easy to navigate the Medina without the use of a personal guide. The safety is at its top . The beaches are just about perfect !
