Staying in a lower deck cabin won't stop me from going on an adventure in Greenland.
Clickbait! I stayed in a lower deck cabin, but the price of an Arctic cruise to Greenland is still over 100,000 yuan. Staying in a lower deck cabin means no spacious balcony, but through the porthole, I could see the huge icebergs outside receding, and my heart was filled with even stronger emotions, as if I were Jack from Titanic.
Simply photographing Iceland no longer satisfies my love for the polar regions. I clearly remember that Iceland's Vatnajökull Glacier is said to be the largest glacier in Europe, while Greenland's glaciers are more than ten times larger, and most of them flow directly into the sea. So I wanted to see what it was like, to see what kind of scene the Titanic encountered back then.
Eqi Glacier is a very active glacier in Greenland, flowing directly into the sea. So when the ship sails near it, you will encounter a lot of icebergs and ice floes. This was my first time experiencing the charm of icebergs at sea in Greenland.

[Greenland] Eai Glacier: Beautiful icebergs and the sense of helplessness behind the shock. 【Limited time offer】
1/ Glacier hike
At 5:30 in the morning, it was still pitch black outside the window. I got up and went out to the sea to see the glaciers.
The glacier we saw this time is called Eai, one of the many glaciers in Greenland. There were four Taiwanese people traveling with us, as well as a Hong Kong auntie who brought her elderly mother. It was a rare opportunity for them to communicate in the same language. Standing on the deck, the group of people could not help but admire the beauty of the icebergs.
The two-hour boat ride went by in a flash, and we spent the entire time on the deck watching the sunset and icebergs. After a round of "icebreaking", the captain stopped the ship a few hundred meters outside the glacier. The Eqi Glacier was like a large snow-white curtain, shining under the Arctic sun.
Although the glacier is not very large, it is enough to make us feel the insignificance of human beings in front of it. Sitting on the boat, I saw ice falling every half an hour or so, and heard the rumbling sound of the glacier moving every ten minutes or so. This reminded me of the shock I felt when I saw the glaciers in Argentina two years ago.
The tour guide explained that the loud rumbling sound was not necessarily the sound of ice falling, but the sound of air released when the ice cracked. She also said humorously: "Perhaps, the air released by the ice may have come from tens of thousands of years ago, who knows!" Everyone in the group laughed. If that's true, maybe I just took a breath of air from the Song Dynasty.
Next is lunch next to the glacier. After the boat stopped, the tour guide set up a mini buffet on the boat like a magic trick. Although the food selection is limited and the dishes are very icy, it is really good to eat fresh fish and cabbage in such a beautiful afternoon.
The happy time passed very quickly. After more than two hours, the ship was about to set sail back to Ilulissat. On the way back, I chatted with my new German friends on the deck. Looking at the glaciers going away and the ice falling one by one from the glaciers, we all felt sad. Behind this shocking sadness were the signs of global warming.
This journey started from myself and ended under the giant screen of nature. It reminded me everywhere how insignificant I am and how selfish human beings are. Perhaps every traveler who has appreciated nature from the bottom of his heart will understand this feeling of helplessness in the shock.

Eqi Glacier, Greenland
When traveling to Greenland, it is best to charter a boat to view the glaciers.
The Eqi Glacier in Ilulissat is a must-see. The boat shuttles between icebergs and heads for the glacier estuary covered with floating ice, which is thrilling. The rumble before the glacier collapses and the huge sound and waves caused when it falls into the sea are very shocking. We stayed in front of the glacier for about 3 hours and saw many glacier collapses. The scene was spectacular📸, and it also reminded us of the importance of protecting nature...
