[2025 Riyadh ] Travel Guide for Edge of the World (Updated May)

My main purpose for visiting Riyadh, Saudi Arabia was for a business trip, so I didn't have much time to go out. I went to many places on a whim during the meeting, and my goal was just to say "I've been here", so I didn't go into much detail. I probably won't come back unless I have a special reason, so I thought I'd visit the classic attractions as a souvenir. The Edge of the World is a "cliff" located in the Gobi Desert outside Riyadh. It is famous for its "spectacular" appearance in the desolate wilderness, especially at sunset, when the golden sun shines on the cliff, giving people a sense of desolation at the end of the world. It takes about two hours to drive from the city center, and the road is not very easy to drive. The last part of the road is directly on the Gobi Desert, which is very bumpy, so if you have elderly people, you may want to consider it carefully. There is a place to rest and go to the bathroom halfway, and this is the only place to rest. Once you enter the Gobi Desert, there are no rest stops or stores. When you arrive, you will really feel that it is worth the trip. We also decided to go to the Edge of the World on a whim, and a Chinese friend who was traveling with us had booked a small car on Trip.com, so we went with them, so we didn't make any special preparations. It is recommended to bring some snacks and water, and wear sportswear, as there is a lot of dust along the way. 🔔Tips: 1. The Edge of the World is about 2.5 hours drive from Riyadh (one way), so it is recommended to prepare for the afternoon + evening free time. 2. The attraction is located in the Gobi Desert, and you need to walk a short distance after arriving, so it is recommended to wear sneakers. 3. Bring a copy or photo of your visa, as police officers will randomly check it. 4. The best time to visit is at sunset, so it is better to book an afternoon tour and go on a sunny day. 5. If you are lucky enough, you will meet a falconer on the edge of the cliff and take a free photo with the falcon. 6. It is recommended to bring a selfie stick to take pictures of yourself, the cliff, and the afterglow.

Just returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia, finally checked off the country of wealth from my bucket list, and found that it was quite different from my stereotype. Take Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, for example. It is a modern city with a "money" power that rises in the heart of the desert. I have summarized 6 must-visit places in and around the city. If you are planning a trip, you can go directly after reading this guide! ▫️ 💚%Arabica It is said to be the largest %Arabica in the world. Most malls and restaurants in Riyadh open after 12:00 pm, but this coffee shop opens at 7:00 am. If you want to take photos with no one around, I suggest you go early. The interior of the building is pure white, which looks very stylish. It has two floors, with a U-shaped coffee bar in the atrium, a glass curtain wall of the roasting workshop, and a viewing seat upstairs, all of which are great for taking photos. ▫️ 💚Kingdom Tower It is currently the tallest building in Riyadh, and it looks like a bottle opener from a distance (friends from Shanghai should understand, haha). The shape of the building is designed to withstand the wind and sand in the desert and to resemble the way locals dress in robes. The Kingdom Tower has 99 floors in total, and the sky bridge on the top floor offers a panoramic view of Riyadh. ▫️ 💚National Museum Museum lovers should not miss it. The museum has a total of 8 exhibition halls and more than 4,000 exhibits. The garden in the courtyard and the park outside the museum are like oases in the yellow sand of Riyadh, which is refreshing. ▫️ 💚Diriyah Diriyah is the former site of the Saudi dynasty and a UNESCO-certified must-visit place in Saudi Arabia. Admission is free before 5:00 pm every day, and a 50 riyal ticket is required after 5:00 pm, but it can be used for dining in the ancient city. The most famous building in the ancient city is Turaif in the center. When the lights come on in the evening, the whole ancient city looks mysterious and beautiful. ▫️ 💚Edge of the World It is about a 2-hour drive from downtown Riyadh, and the second half of the road is a difficult dirt road, so it is not recommended to drive there by yourself. Just an hour's drive from Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, in a 4WD vehicle lies the cliff commonly known as the 'Edge of the World.' Typically, you need to join a local tour to visit this place. Since you need to drive on rough desert roads for about 30 minutes, visiting by rental car is not recommended. I booked a tour with Tour around Saudi through GetYourGuide, which cost around 7500 yen. The tour included dinner at a desert campsite and was very satisfying. There are also several companies offering private tours, so find one that suits you. If you're lucky, you might even encounter camels along the way. As a precaution, the ride on the desert road can be quite bumpy, so if you are prone to motion sickness, it's a good idea to take some medication. Also, be sure to listen carefully to the guide's instructions regarding meeting times and other details. At the Edge of the World, you can witness the landscapes you imagined of Saudi Arabia. The sense of mystery at the end of the world is not exaggerated at all. Have some afternoon tea and sit on the cliff waiting for the sunset. It's a two and a half hour drive from Riyadh. Generally, only short-bodied off-road vehicles can get in. And there's no road, no signal! The vague mountain road is pressed out by the car. Without a guide, it's easy to get lost inside. Completely undeveloped. It's really worth the trip.

A tour of the spectacular desert scenery that can be reached by car in about 2 hours northwest from Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The cheapest tours cost around 7,000 to 15,000 yen. Edge of the world is located some 100km NW from the capital of KSA Riyadh. Up to about 30km, road is good, until you reach tarmac road. Even that road is not that bad, there a few spots that are not drivable without a 4x4 or at least higher car. I ventured with a regular small car, and was eventually stopped some 5km before goal. Luckily a group picked me up and drove me to the final spot. Pictures I did, do net give the spot the right justice, it is magnificent, and definitely worth the trip.

During my trip to Saudi Arabia during the National Day holiday, the place that left a deep impression on me was of course the Cliff of the World. Usually attractions with "world" in the title make me feel flashy, but this place really surprised me. Is Cliff of the World worth it after being asked in the circle of friends? Some people say that it’s just a bunch of Gobi deserts, and there’s nothing you can’t see. Some people say that the sunset in the desert is desolate and beautiful, but this trip still lives up to it. Regarding the ✅ and ❌ of World Cliff, I have summarized them below. As for whether it is worth it or not, you can weigh it yourself. ▫️ 🚗The Cliff of the World is about a 2-hour drive from downtown Riyadh. There is no public transportation to reach it. It is usually recommended to charter a car or join a local group. 🏃Route: Riyadh-Local Ancient Village-Bat Cave-Cliff of the World 🌟Notes: 1️⃣It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the parking point to the Cliff of the World viewing point. There is sand and dust all the way, and it is very sunny. It is recommended that everyone wear sun protection, wear a hat and sunglasses, and prepare a bottle of water, otherwise you will be very thirsty. 2️⃣ It is not recommended to drive by yourself, because the second half of the journey from Riyadh to Cliff of the World is completely bumpy dirt road, and there is no signal. It will be really scary when you return after watching the sunset and everything is dark. ▫️ ✅Worthful points: 👉The sun is really big near the equator, and the round red sun looks so shocking~ 👉The group of Gobi rocks on the Cliff of the World are amazing up close! Although the meal is average, when you look up you see the Milky Way and you can’t help but wow! ▫️ ❌Not worth it: 👉It was a nearly 2-hour car ride, and the second half of it was really bumpy. All the dust that was raised along the way entered the car, and the air conditioner couldn't filter it out at all. People who get motion sickness will doubt their life. 👉The scenic spots we passed on the way, the ancient village and the Bat Cave, are not good for anyone who goes there. The ancient village is just a bunch of abandoned houses without any maintenance. I didn’t see a single one 🦇 inside the Bat Cave, and it was very hot. 👉After struggling for so long, the time to wait for the sunset at the Cliff of the World was very short, probably less than an hour, so the drive back and forth took 4 hours, and most of it was bumpy on the dirt road... ▫️ Anyway, if you travel to Riyadh, Cliff of the World is still the most worthwhile place in my mind. If you have enough time, I still recommend going there. After all... you have come!
