|Bafang Shisanxiang Donggong Mansion. Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture is one of the two Hui autonomous prefectures in China, with 31 ethnic groups including Han, Hui, Dongxiang, Baoan, and Salar. Linxia City has a long history, profound cultural heritage, and rich ethnic customs. Bafang Shisanxiang has been a place where merchants and religious figures from Dashi, Persia, and other countries traveled along the Silk Road for business, preaching, and settlement in Linxia (Hezhou) and its surrounding areas since the Tang Dynasty. After the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, eight mosques and their teaching workshops were gradually built, forming a settlement area named "Bafang" where people lived around the mosque and did business around the workshop. Linxia is known as the "Little Mecca" in China. The most famous mosques include Nanguan Mosque, Linxia Lao Hua Mosque, and Lao Wang Mosque.
