Historic buildings
Queen's Island Palace is Sweden's first World Heritage Site. There are two ancient buildings with a long history and magnificent momentum here: the Chinese Palace and the Queen's Island Theatre. So far, the castle part of Queen's Island is still inhabited by the Swedish royal family. Because a fire in 1661 destroyed the former palace, the then princess Hedvig Eleonora ordered architect Nicodemus Tessin to build a new palace, but after more than 20 years, the construction was still not completed. Tessin's son inherited his father's legacy and took Versailles as a prototype , and then designed and built the palace. However, due to the financial difficulties caused by the war and the different requirements of different generations of monarchs, the style of the Queen's Island Palace changed again and again, and it was not until the mid-18th century that it was nearly completed. However, in 1792, King Gustav III was assassinated in the theater in it, and the construction of the palace was stopped again. It was not until 1960 that this magnificent and beautiful palace was finally completed. Mixing the concept of the French Baroque style of Tessin and his son and the British style that Gustav III liked, playing it makes people linger.
