Dragon Centre: A Fun Stop in Sham Shui Po if You’re Nearby
#favouriteitinerary #travelanywhere During our time in Hong Kong, we came across the Dragon Centre in Sham Shui Po, a local shopping mall that provides a unique and off-the-beaten-path experience. Just a few minutes from the Sham Shui Po MTR station, this large mall offers a genuine slice of everyday life in the neighborhood, far from the usual tourist destinations.
The mall itself is extensive, housing a variety of shops that cater primarily to locals, ranging from electronics and fashion to niche specialty stores. It’s the kind of place where you can truly experience the pulse of Hong Kong’s local culture, with a lively energy and a much more authentic vibe compared to the typical commercialized areas.
We made our way up to the 8th floor, where the food court is located. It’s a bustling spot with a wide variety of local eats, all served at reasonable prices. Whether you’re craving noodles, rice dishes, or classic Hong Kong snacks, there’s something to satisfy every palate in this casual, vibrant setting.
What really stood out, though, were the upper levels, where we encountered an abandoned roller coaster. Although no longer in operation, the sight of the decaying tracks added an unexpected, almost surreal element to the mall’s atmosphere—a quirky reminder of its past.
To cap off the visit, there’s also a relatively new ice skating rink in the mall, offering a fun and unexpected way to cool off from the city heat. While Dragon Centre may not be a must-add to your itinerary, it’s a fun spot to check out if you’re in the area. With its mix of local shopping, unique surprises, and a laid-back vibe, it’s a nice place to explore if you find yourself in Sham Shui Po.
