I've been living in Dali for 2 years and have started exploring lesser-known cities in Yunnan. I found Mile, a small city just 30 minutes away from Kunming by high-speed rail. I stayed there for two days. There were few tourists, many attractions, great photo opportunities, and delicious food. I want to share it with you all!
🚗 Transportation
High-speed rail: Mile is directly accessible from Kunming, Dali, Nanning, Beihai, Guangzhou, and other cities. You can also transfer in Kunming, which is only half an hour away.
Public transportation: Mile has buses and taxis, and you can also use ride-hailing apps.
🏝️ Attractions
1️⃣ Dongfengyun Scenic Area: One of the most famous attractions in Mile, known for its unique red brick buildings and beautiful natural scenery. The scenic area has many photo spots, such as the Kaleidoscope Art Museum and Half Cloud Lounge.
2️⃣ Lake Spring Ecological Park: A large park in the city with waterfalls, clear water, white sand, and abundant plants. It's a great place for walking and relaxing.
3️⃣ Yunnan Red Wine Manor: You can visit the underground wine cellar, learn about wine culture and production, taste wine, and buy souvenirs.

I stayed in a red brick castle in Yunnan
Because this trip was solo, I strictly controlled my travel budget, and the place I stayed on the day I arrived in Kunming was 👉 Mile Dongfengyun Niu Duo Luo Music Farm
I originally went for the night view of Dongfengyun Scenic Area🌃, but it was too late when I arrived, and I missed the sunset🌇
Dongfengyun was created by a talented artist from Mile, Yunnan, named Luo Xu. It is said that he was inspired by his child's doodles on paper and had a sudden idea to create this series of buildings. The buildings are all made of red bricks, without using a single steel bar or nail, forming an architectural complex with themes such as kaleidoscope, half a cloud, and seal. The construction of this building took only 300 days, using 300,000 red bricks, and built such a red brick arch structure that even architects couldn't help but marvel at.
⭕️ Dinner was at the Chinese restaurant of 👉 Dongfengyun Meijing Pavilion Select Hotel, mainly because I only got the rented car🚗 at 5:30 pm, and it was almost 8 pm when I arrived in Mile City.
⭕️ Meijing Pavilion Hotel is outside the Dongfengyun Scenic Area, just show your order🎫 to enter the hotel.
⚠️ After that, I had an extremely unpleasant dining experience, please avoid this restaurant⚠️
⚠️ I walked into the restaurant from the lobby and there was no staff to greet me, not even a glass of water🥃 was poured, and I ended up pouring it myself;
⚠️ It took 15 minutes to take my order after sitting down, and only after asking several times did they take my order;
⚠️ It took 30 minutes to serve the dishes🥣 after ordering, and I was told that the service ends at 9 pm, it was the first time I finished a hot pot meal in 15 minutes;
⚠️ The table next to me even got the wrong pot base🍲❗️
⭕️ It was already 9 pm after dinner, so I hurried to Niu Duo Luo to check in. The homestay is inside the scenic area, just show the order information to the gatekeeper and you don't need to buy a ticket🎫 to enter the scenic area❗️
⭕️ Following the navigation🧭, I quickly arrived at the homestay. Since it was a dead-end road, the housekeeper said it was fine to park the car on the side of the road as long as it didn't affect other cars.
⭕️ Since it was the off-season for tourism, the housekeeper upgraded my room for free😄 from the annex to the main building.
⭕️ The housekeeper was very enthusiastic and helped move my luggage🧳 to the room. The room was large and clean, and I always felt like I had come to Spain🇪🇸.
⭕️ The homestay included breakfast the next day🥣, and now that I think about it, the rice noodles served to me were Mile's special braised chicken rice noodles🍜 in addition to the self-service fruits, bread, and stir-fried dishes.
⭕️ After eating and drinking, I took photos and checked in at the scenic area. It's really too good for photos📷 here, with blue skies and white clouds🌞 and plenty of light, but often you may have to compete with the aunties for a spot. Of course, you will also meet many beautiful👩 ladies.
⭕️ When leaving, I grouped another afternoon tea☕️ package from Meijing Pavilion (of course, I applied for a refund as soon as I entered the hotel). Although the service experience at the Chinese restaurant was not great, the hotel is really beautiful.

📷 Photo shooting suggestions:
1️⃣ It is recommended to shoot in the afternoon. I shot in the morning, and the angle and intensity of the light were not ideal. The local sunrise in Yunnan is around 7:20 am, and sunset is around 7 pm;
2️⃣ It is said that flying drones is not allowed in the scenic area, but I took off from the homestay to shoot the kaleidoscope;
3️⃣ Classic shooting spots: The main entrance of the Meijing Pavilion lobby can capture the hotel's three large chimneys, and the rest is shooting around the kaleidoscope. Since the main body of the building is quite large and there are many people, you can bring a telephoto lens.

How many people, like us, came to Maitreya for this magical castle
Do you only know about Dali and Lijiang when you go to Yunnan? This time I recommend you a treasure town in Yunnan—Maitreya, which is only more than an hour's drive from Kunming. The must-visit Dongfeng Rhyme is called the "Eastern Turkey" by everyone. It really has a sense of déjà vu in a foreign town. The temperature in winter is also about 20 degrees, which is not cold or hot. It's really comfortable, not only there are vineyards and hot springs, it can also be considered a treasure place for walking in my heart.

✅In front of the Kaleidoscope Art Museum: The entire surroundings are quite good for shooting, and any position is very good for taking pictures;
✅Infinity pool in Dongfeng Rhyme Town: There is a circular arch that can see the kaleidoscope in the distance;
✅The lawn passed from the scenic area to the hotel: Sitting on the slope of the lawn can take a whole kaleidoscope;
✅The atrium of the Meijing Pavilion 1 building: It's so comfortable to sit here for a courtyard afternoon tea, you can shoot from the second floor overlooking, or sit under the round arch with reeds, stand opposite and shoot, remember that the low angle can shoot a large picture with a sense of déjà vu in the water.
✅The atrium of Meijing Pavilion Building 3: This hedge maze really easily takes French-style photos.
✅The atrium of Meijing Pavilion No. 5: The international chess lawn is like a scene in a fairy tale world. It's really great to shoot from the second floor with a wide-angle lens.
✅The wooden walkway in the middle of the Meijing Pavilion pool: The background is the kaleidoscope of the Dongfeng Rhyme Scenic Area, and the white Meijing Pavilion logo is also super match. Use a telephoto lens to shoot from a high place, the picture has a sense of composition.
✅The echo wall in front of the Meijing Pavilion lobby: The minimalist design sense, when there is a blue sky and white clouds, it is a big picture with a casual shot.
🚄How to get there?
You can take a high-speed train from Kunming to Maitreya Station, and then take a taxi for 10 minutes; you can also drive from Kunming, and it will arrive in an hour and a half.
🏨Accommodation choice:
It is highly recommended to stay at the Meijing Pavilion Hotel in the Dongfeng Rhyme Scenic Area for fun with children. You can walk to the kaleidoscope. The key is that the hotel is better than the scenic area. There are also rich parent-child experience activities. Bingtang Xueli had a super fun time experiencing pottery for the first time. The booked courtyard room with a hot spring pool is quite popular with children.
🍽️Food recommendation:
The must-visit is definitely the Maitreya specialty braised chicken rice noodles, and the winter Jiugongge hot pot and Yunnan dishes at the Meijing Pavilion are not bad. Recently, there is also a Chinese New Year themed afternoon tea, which is very delicate and suitable for photo check-in~ By the way, don't miss tasting the locally produced wine, the taste is very pure.

I came to MGallery Maitreya for a holiday and stayed in the mysterious Building 8 with a kaleidoscope room. This is the VIP member room that will not be marked separately on the hotel map.
Unlike the ordinary kaleidoscope room, this is a suite with a super large cloakroom, massage bathtub and super large living room (all in the room)
The room also has a large balcony at least 3m long, and you can see the opposite kaleidoscope building at a glance. The night and day views are great (

Yunnan Mile Dongfeng Yun, Not Worth a Second Visit｜On the Road by Car
🌈Scenic Spot Features:
Yunnan Province is vast and rich, with many airports, making it very suitable for tourism. Among the many cities in Yunnan, in my opinion, Mile is the least interesting. However, the Dongfeng Yun Scenic Area in Mile City has become very popular in recent years. It was transformed from the former Dongfeng Farm, so part of the farm's exhibits are still preserved in the scenic area.
The scenic area is rated 4A, not very large. If you don't particularly like taking photos, an hour is enough to walk around. But if you like checking in and taking photos, the time is hard to say, after all, the red brick walls there are very photogenic.
However, apart from the red brick walls, there are very few other points of interest. So, in my opinion, it's not worth a second visit unless you were once settled there. Moreover, it's okay to visit if it's on your way, but there's no need to make a special trip. Just look at the photos online; the experience might be better than actually going there.

I sincerely do not recommend going at night, as it is not photogenic and there's not much to see.
🏝️Route Recommendation:
I flew to Kunming and then drove there. It took about 4 hours. The scenic area is close to the highway exit, the road is fairly easy to drive, but it takes too long. Just to take a few photos and check in, it's not really worth it.
💗Other Tips:
If possible, I recommend staying at the MGallery Hotel, which is inside the scenic area. There is a small path from the hotel to the main scenic spots. If you don't want to squeeze with the crowd at the main spots, the hotel itself is very photogenic. I even think the hotel is more photogenic than the scenic spots; I took several portrait photos at the hotel.

The temperature in southern Yunnan is rising, and the ripe fruits will be made into fine wine. People listen to songs, clink glasses, and stroll in the garden under the red bricks. Travelers follow the dance steps of the Axi people, enchanted by the skirts of Yi girls.
Tips:
1. Since Dongfeng Yun Art Town is close to Mile High-Speed Railway Station, it is recommended to leave it for the last day of your trip. It is very convenient to call a car, costing around 10 yuan, and there is no traffic jam.
2. Stay at the Mercure Hotel, where guests can enter and exit the scenic area unlimited times. The hotel shuttle bus can pick you up at any time, and the response is very timely.
3. A small tip for booking a room: call the hotel lobby to get a stored-value card, which can enjoy a discounted price.
4. The room type is a double bed room with a soaking pool. Call the front desk, and there will be staff to disinfect the soaking pool.
5. The hotel provides children's bathrobes, which need to be delivered by calling the front desk.

I was deeply attracted by the Dongfeng Yun town, known as the 'Oriental Morocco', when watching the show 'Full Speed Ahead'. It's just a one and a half hour drive from Fuxian Lake 🚘1️⃣✌🏻

We stayed directly in the scenic area with our little cutie 🏨, and the exterior of the Dongfeng Yun Meijing Pavilion is also a unique red brick 🧱 building. The 5️⃣ buildings each have their own style, different themes, but all are full of artistic sense~
We specially chose the kaleidoscope room, where you can see the kaleidoscope on the opposite side from the balcony, so happy~
