Dongdaemun is brightly lit at night. It is not only a shopping paradise, but also a place for night owls to linger. From clothing wholesale markets to trendy shopping malls, every building is like a city that never sleeps, flashing neon lights and inviting people to come in and explore. And when the shopping mall closes, the nightlife is just beginning. Walking into a small alley, I found a lively Korean pub hidden inside. I pushed open the door and the air was filled with the aroma of soju and barbecue. People in the store were drinking and talking and laughing. Some had just got off work and were hanging out with colleagues, while others were travelers, like me, enjoying the late-night atmosphere of a foreign country. Looking at the busy streets outside the window, this feeling is particularly charming. Even in the middle of the night, young people gathered on the roadside, drinking beer from convenience stores, chatting and laughing, as if this city would never get tired. I strolled in this atmosphere, feeling like I had become a part of this city that never sleeps, enjoying the feeling of freedom. #newyearnewtrip Bindaedduk (green mungbean pancake), is a rather popular delicacy among Koreans to be eaten as dinner snack, and good to go with Makgeolli, a kind of wine made of rice till it turns milky and off white. There is this shop at Dongdaemun traditional Market, called Soonhuinae Bindaeddeok, selling traditional mungbean pancakes, scallion pancakes and other delicacies like Tteokbukki, Gimbap etc. We ordered the Bindaeddeok as this is their specialty within their shop, and they tasted so good and it tasted heavenly when paired with Makgeolli. The pancakes are crispy at the outside and soft in the inside, and the ingredients used are fresh amd generous. You can see the store's popularity by looking at the crowd and numbers of takeaway outside. We will definitely visit again.

But when you start eating chicken and soup, it starts to taste good without you realizing it. Plus, the cold weather makes you feel much better when you eat something hot. After eating, the guide let us go for a walk. We walked around comfortably and didn't feel cold at all. It might be because the chicken is at a high altitude, which provides heat energy.

They also sell Jibbitz and instant adhesives so it was nice that I could buy everything at once ㅎㅎ

Dongdaemun is still a good place to find nice simple street food. This stall has been operating in DDM for a long while (a Google search brings out quite a few online videos dated back since 2018). Glad it has survived the pandemic and still can be found in DDM. This is my first time eating such crunchy croquette-like bread. The filling and size of this street food is in itself a meal to fuel your energy while walking in Seoul.

On the way, I had yukhoe, makgeolli, conger eel, bulgogi, and leemyeon at the market, and gopchang for dinner. In the morning when I returned home, I had samgyetang. I gained 2kg 😋
