Ban Thet Thai, a historical tourist attraction in Chiang Rai Province. When you enter Ban Thet Thai, you will feel the atmosphere of the past when the Chinese Haw people immigrated to live here. Later, many hill tribes in the nearby mountains moved in to live here, to work as farmers and traders. The village leader, Khun Sa, was Chinese and came to live here as a base for the troops when they joined forces to fight for independence from Burma for the Shan State. However, Khun Sa later became a world-class drug lord, causing the Thai government to suppress and eventually drive him out.
Originally, Ban Thet Thai was called Ban Hin Taek, which came from a rock where the Mae Kham River and Doi Saeng Stream met, causing the rock to break but not separate. Therefore, the name of the rock was used as the name of the village. However, in 1982, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn granted the name "Ban Thet Thai".
Currently, Ban Thet Thai is a peaceful community with many cultures, both Chinese and hill tribes living together in harmony.
