Doi Khun Tan National Park
A good place for hiking and camping. There is located at the border of Lampang and Lampoon provinces.
Amazing place and you can see beautiful sunset and sunrise. Easy to travel by trains from either Bangkok or Chiang Mai (departs at Khun Tan Station-being famous from the unique railway tunnel). The one place don't miss if you go to north of thailand. #lampang #lampoon #camping #hiking

Take a 3rd class train to go hiking at Doi Khuntan.
Doi Khun Tan National Park, Mae Tha District, Lamphun Province, is adjacent to Hang Chat District, Lampang Province. Traveling is very easy. Just book a ticket, pack your backpack, and jump on the train. For a relaxing trip like this, you have to sit on the 3rd floor. Sit and soak up the atmosphere and live a slow life.
.
Khun Tan Tunnel is the highlight of this place. The interesting thing about this place is that it is the only national park in Thailand that can be reached by public transport (train), while other national parks require private cars to access.

DOI KHUN TAN
This 225-sq-km national park straddles the mountains between Lamphun and Lampang Provinces. It ranges in elevation from 350m in the bamboo-forest lowlands to 1363m at the pine-studded summit of Doi Khun Tan. Wildflowers, including orchids, ginger and lilies, are abundant. At the park headquarters there are maps of well-marked trails that range from short walks around the headquarter's vicinity to hikes covering the mountain’s four peaks; there’s also a trail to Nam Tok Tat Moei (7km round trip).
The park is very popular on cool-season weekends. Intersecting the mountain slopes is Thailand’s longest train tunnel (1352m), which opened in 1921 after six years of manual labour by thousands of Lao workers (several of whom are said to have been killed by tigers).
Bungalows (500B to 2700B) sleeping between two and nine people are available near the park headquarters, where there’s also a restaurant.
The main access to the park is from the Khun Tan train station. To check timetables and prices from various destinations, call the State Railway of Thailand or check its website. Once at the Khun Tan station, cross the tracks and follow a steep, marked path 1.3km to the park headquarters. By car, take the Chiang Mai–Lampang highway to the Mae Tha turn-off then follow the signs along a steep unpaved road for 18km.

Beginner's Guide to Hiking at Doi Khun Tan
♥️ Hiking at Doi Khun Tan ♥️ This forest and mountain are the first places where we hiked, camped, enjoyed nature, and listened to spooky stories about the natural forest. The mountain is divided into strategic points from World War II, named Y1 to Y4, each with its own history. Hikers can rest at Y2, a small pine field with park restrooms. There are also waterfalls within the forest. In the morning, hike up to Y4 to watch the sunrise.
For beginners, this is a recommended spot. The trail is short and the journey is convenient, covering two provinces: Lamphun and Lampang.
