One of the highlights of my trip to Iceland - the power of nature is undeniable!
We visited many stunning waterfalls in Iceland and other countries, and Dettifoss did not disappoint. From what I understand, it is the most powerful waterfall in Europe, with a flow rate of up to 600 cubic meters per second. Before you even see it, you can sense its presence through the noise, spray, and rainbows. It is truly impressive, roaring forward over the wide cliffs, so be prepared to get wet. The day I visited, the spray and mist were intense, showcasing the raw power of nature. Make sure to hike to all the available viewpoints, as each offers a different perspective. But wear sturdy shoes (preferably waterproof) and bring a light jacket, as it can get cold and windy at times.
Since the north coast of Iceland is still not as popular as the Reykjavik area and the south coast, attractions like Dettifoss have more visitors but are not as crowded as those in the Golden Circle.

Dettifoss Waterfall, Iceland
Dettifoss is one of the most powerful waterfalls in Europe, located in Vatnajökull National Park in northeastern Iceland. Known for its immense size and force, it is a must-see for nature enthusiasts and photographers.
Key Features:
• Powerful Flow: With a width of 100 meters and a drop of 44 meters, Dettifoss has a massive water flow of about 193 cubic meters per second, making it the most powerful waterfall in Europe.
• Impressive Landscape: The waterfall is surrounded by rugged lava fields, creating a dramatic and otherworldly landscape.
• Viewing Platforms: There are two main viewing areas, one on the east and one on the west side of the waterfall, offering different perspectives of the falls and the surrounding landscape.
• Nearby Attractions: Visitors can also explore Selfoss, a smaller but equally beautiful waterfall, located just a short walk upstream from Dettifoss.
Tips:
• Dress warmly and bring waterproof gear, as the mist from the waterfall can get you wet.
• Visit in summer for easier access, though the falls are impressive year-round.
• Be cautious when walking near the viewing areas, as the ground can be slippery.
Dettifoss Waterfall is an awe-inspiring natural wonder, perfect for those seeking a raw and powerful display of Iceland’s natural beauty.

"Iceland's Dettifoss" is my most anticipated movie shooting location
On the fourth day of my arrival in Iceland, the waterfall I was most looking forward to was "Dettifoss". This waterfall has two viewing points, east and west, and I chose the east one because it was the scene from the movie "Prometheus" shooting location.
🚙It takes about 3 hours from the hotel to Dettifoss🚙
To go to the waterfall, you must pass Highway 864 or 862. The road is full of gravel and the road is not easy. Moreover, this road is not often open. In winter, it is covered with thick snow, so it is closed.
It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the parking lot to Detti Waterfall. Most of it is uneven gravel roads. It rains and winds blow while walking, and the weather suddenly becomes cold🥶
But when we finally saw this majestic waterfall, all the effort became worth it! This waterfall is located in the glacier valley area, and the water is huge. Standing next to the waterfall, you can feel the power of nature.
The plot of the movie comes to mind...

Vatnajokull National Park
Vatnajokull National Park is the largest national park in Iceland, established in 2008, with a total area of about 14,000 square kilometers. It is located in southeastern Iceland and includes the Vatnajokull glacier and surrounding mountains, volcanoes, lakes, glaciers, waterfalls and other natural landscapes. Vatnajokull is one of the largest ice caps in Europe, covering more than a third of Iceland. There are also many other natural landscapes in the park, such as Dettifoss, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the world, Jokulsarlon glacier lake, Grindavik volcano, etc., it is a spectacular place. As a national park, the main purpose of Vatnajokull National Park is to protect and preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the area, while providing opportunities for visitors to engage in outdoor activities and natural exploration. The park offers many activities such as hiking, glacier climbing, skiing, rock climbing, etc., allowing visitors to experience these beautiful landscapes up close.

Dettifoss, located in the remote wilderness of Iceland's Vatnajökull National Park, is a force of nature that words can scarcely describe. Visiting Dettifoss was a truly humbling experience. As I approached, the roar of the cascading water echoed through the canyon, and the sheer power of this waterfall left me in awe.
Standing at the precipice, I was met with a breathtaking spectacle – a massive, churning torrent of glacial meltwater plunging over a rugged cliff into a misty abyss. The spray created rainbows that danced in the sunlight. It felt like witnessing the primal forces of Earth in action.
The hike to Dettifoss is an adventure in itself, but the reward is this majestic display of raw natural beauty. It's a place where you can reconnect with the awe-inspiring power of the natural world.

"Detiforce" with its majestic and powerful force
Dettifoss, located in Myvatn, Iceland, is known as the largest waterfall in Europe.
When you actually encounter Dettifoss, it feels grand and magnificent, so it was really cool, but on the other hand, you feel how small humans are in front of nature.
The road to Dettifoss is also a travel destination that satisfies with its beautiful natural scenery, so I highly recommend Dettifoss during your trip to Iceland:)

The truly deserving "Land of Thousand Waterfalls" Iceland, with stunning waterfalls in various shapes and forms.
The truly deserving "Land of Thousand Waterfalls" Iceland, with stunning waterfalls in various shapes and forms.
Iceland has so many waterfalls, it is renowned.
As the "land of a thousand waterfalls," waterfalls are the most representative and must-see natural beauty in Iceland. From the Golden Falls, the Detifoss, the Skogafoss, to the Godafoss...they come in all shapes and sizes, and are as beautiful as a fairyland on earth.

Dettifoss
Dettifoss Dettifoss
Iceland is a paradise for geologists and a paradise for film directors. Iceland's large and small waterfalls are particularly high in the film and are large. In the beginning of Prometheus, the alien skin of the skin was thrown on the earth by the spacecraft. When accidentally, it was thrown to a waterfall. The aliens drank a bowl of sesame paste and jumped into the abyss. In the middle, the waterfall where the aliens lost their lives is the dettifoss Dettifoss in northeastern Iceland.
In the 13-year-old "The Battle of the Dead," Tomog drove into the paradise on his way to the paradise, and dive into the dettifoss. The upper reaches of the
River originated from the Vatna Glacier in the south. When the road flows northward to the Dettifoss type, the water volume is huge and the flow rate does not slow down, so stand on this 44-meter-wide, 100-meter-high waterfall. On the side, I feel that the whole world is in shock.
