[Kyoto] A huge queue! A must-try Kyoto specialty: Mame Daifuku
Speaking of Kyoto's Japanese sweets, Demachi Futaba's Mame Daifuku is the first thing that comes to mind!
Today, long lines have formed in search of the harmony of the enchanting mochi and bean paste 👀✨
Its expiration date is the same day, so it's a special sweet that you can only eat if you go there!
I have tried to get it many times during my trip to Kyoto, but I have repeatedly given up because it is too popular and I couldn't get it, so I will finally introduce the strategy I came up with after researching a lot!
😋How does it taste?
With just one bite, you will immediately understand the reason for its popularity. The chewy habutae mochi is surprisingly soft. Inside, it is filled with elegantly sweet bean paste and red peas with an exquisite salty accent. The balance of this trinity is just perfect! It is not too sweet, not too heavy, and it is dangerously delicious, so you can eat as many as you want.
By the way, since it does not contain any preservatives, it has an expiration date of the same day!
Of course, freshly made is the best, so we strongly recommend eating it on the spot,
but sometimes you just want to take it home!
In those cases, just add a little water and microwave at 500W for 10 to 20 seconds to return it to its softness, and you can eat it deliciously!
👀The way to get Mame Daifuku! Revealing the strategy!
1. The classic! Attack the main store!
Opening attack strategy:
The most reliable way is to go as soon as the store opens at 8:30 in the morning! However, since it is a popular store, you need to be prepared to line up before the store opens. Especially on weekends and holidays, you want to arrive before the store opens.
Aim for weekday mornings:
Weekday mornings are relatively quiet, so it's a good time to go. They may sell out before lunchtime, so it's best to go early.
Never give up:
Even if you're in a line, don't give up! The turnover is surprisingly fast, so you may get your turn sooner than you think.
2. Get it smart by making a reservation by phone!
I recently found out that you can actually make reservations at Demachi Futaba by phone! If you make a reservation by the day before, you can pick it up on the day with zero waiting time. However, there are limited reservation slots, so it is essential to contact them early.
3. Get it at a department store!
If you are off your travel route and can't make it to the main store... you still have a chance! You can get Demachi Futaba's Mame Daifuku at the following department stores. However, they are only sold on certain days of the week and in limited quantities, so we recommend making a reservation in advance◎
JR Kyoto Isetan:
Online reservations can be made up to 3 days in advance◎
The location is directly connected to Kyoto Station, so it is recommended as it is less likely to affect your itinerary! Japanese sweets section on the first basement floor.
Takashimaya Kyoto Store:
Japanese sweets section on the first basement floor.
You can make a reservation by phone up to the day before.
Daimaru Kyoto Store:
Hoppe Town, the food floor on the first basement floor.
We also recommend making a reservation by phone here.
Use this strategy to get your hands on the very popular Mame Daifuku!
They're so delicious that they disappear quickly, so I recommend getting a lot.
I tried some and regretted not buying more, so don't make the same mistake as me!
If you're traveling to Kyoto, be sure to get some!
