After binge watching countless Korean dramas on Netflix I finally had a chance to visit Seoul over the summer. This is my second solo trip to Seoul! On this trip, I made sure to enjoy soy sauce marinated crab (ganjang gejang), café hopping (visiting places like Onion, Bready Post, and Cafe Kitchen 205), porridge, samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), fried chicken, solo Korean BBQ, yukhoe (Korean beef tartare) and sannakji (live octopus). I had an amazing time! Korea is super solo-traveler friendly, and the portions aren't too big! Well, except for the fried chicken 😂. You might think, "Fried chicken? We have that in Japan too," but Korean fried chicken is completely different—super crispy and packed with flavor! There are even places where you can enjoy samgyetang and BBQ alone! This time, I visited a restaurant called Soso Galbi and another called Tosokchon. At the BBQ place, as soon as you sit down, they automatically serve you a single portion of meat. That’s the only item on the menu—so simple and straightforward! Café hopping in Korea is also a lot of fun! At Hyundai Department Store, there are bakeries and cake shops all in one place, so you can try a variety of things at once. I even bought some bread to take back home! If you have time, I highly recommend taking a stroll through Mangwon Market to experience the local market culture of Seoul! Although the strawberry season is coming to an end, during our visit over the past few days, we found that the strawberries here are the cheapest 🍓! If it weren't for the fact that the hotel fridge still had some from earlier purchases, I would have bought more. The strawberries sold at Mangwon Market look incredibly fresh—if you happen to pass by, I suggest buying a box to try! The market offers a wide variety of goods, ranging from seafood, fresh and cooked food, Korean snacks, to all kinds of household items, clothing, and fruits. You don't necessarily have to shop; you can simply wander around and soak in the lively local atmosphere. (I ended up not buying anything 🙋) P.S. There's a small exhibition nearby, so I visited it while I was in the area!

Friends who like bread really can’t miss these shops. Each one has its own characteristics. Some branches are more crowded, so remember to make a reservation or go early when planning your trip! 1. Cafe Onion Anguo Branch This is a popular bakery that you can find not far from the subway station. It is hidden in a Korean house and has a great atmosphere! It was nine o'clock in the morning when we arrived, but there were too many people on the scene, so we had to give up queuing! (ps I later passed by the Shengshuidong branch (industrial style) and found that there was no queue, so I went in directly to buy the most famous pencil snow mountain. There is no need to queue up for inside use, just find a seat by yourself!)📷📍 2. London Bagel Museum 🥯 This restaurant is also very crowded. It is recommended to make a reservation on Catch Table. After making a reservation, you can go shopping nearby and wait for SMS notification before entering. 👌 We ordered the original bagel + walnut cream sauce, which is spread directly on the bagel and tastes super fragrant and rich. Another flavor is the potato cheese bagel, which is salty and very filling, and full of potato filling! 3. Cafe Layered When we went there, we didn't have to queue up and could eat right away. They mainly serve a variety of scones. We ordered the original Scone which was creamy and delicious! The strawberry scones were a bit disappointing, the scones were a bit dry and the strawberry jam was too sweet. I would like to try other flavors next time. The atmosphere in the store was also very comfortable. 4. Artist Bakery It is also recommended to make a reservation using Catch Table. We chose take-out and were called, and were able to enter in about 10 minutes. The main dish of this restaurant is salt bread. We ordered the original flavor, which was crispy, fragrant and chewy. We took it out for midnight snacks and breakfast the next day~ ✴️ Tip: There was always a long queue when we passed by the Seongsudong branch, but we passed by the Anguo branch twice and there was no queue at all!
