David is a masterpiece of Renaissance Michelangelo, carved between 1501 and 1504. The statue is a standing male nude carved in white marble, 5.17 meters high and weighs about 6 tons. Used to represent the Jewish hero King David in the Bible, it attracts about 1.2 million people every year to visit. In the beginning, the statue was placed in the square in front of the Palazzo Vecchio. In 1873, to protect the statue, the statue of David was transferred to the gallery of the Academy Art Gallery. Later, the Florence government also successively exhibited two replicas, which were placed in the center of Piazzale Michelangelo and in front of the gate of the City Hall.

David Statue by Michelangelo
Visit the Galleria dell'Accademia while visiting Florence is a must! The galley is not too big, people go in just for the photo of this statue, but there are so much more to see in this gallery if you love art piece. I enjoy seeing all the other statue too, the room filled with statues are amazing, you can see the details of how artists creat their work and able to show the emotions and expressions from the art.
There are many other paintings, other than paintings about religion, there are some for musicians, there is also an area showing the generations of pianos.

Most Epic art in Italy
Michaelangelo's masterpiece needs no introduction. There was such anticipation created in me on the day I went to the academia dell Galleria where this legendry masterpiece is housed. A mere statue with so much tall around it and so much explanation. There are guided practically hired to get the best experience and understanding of this.
I went on my own but like anyone else I had read up and the moment I saw the statue i was in awe of it. The sense of realistic depiction, and then not very accurate but with everything that michaelangelo did with this statue has a reason and explanation. That blows my mind. I kept staring at the right hand that was intentionally done bigger. Something else was quite small though. But coming back to the hand, my eyes were fixated in the veins and the way it looked as if it would move and David would come to life.
I would say it is worth the hassle. Because there are huge ques to get in. Oh and get your tickets online, that won't get you in quickly by better than buying at the venue. It's a timed ticket, you have to come by that time for entry. This masterpiece is not to be missed. You get to brag for the rest of your life " I saw michaelangelo's David in person" haha
