The 28th temple of the 88 Shikoku Pilgrimage
Dainichi-ji Temple is said to have been founded by Bodhisattva Gyoki at the request of Emperor Shomu about 1,200 years ago, and was later restored by Kukai (Kobo Daishi). The principal image of Dainichi Nyorai is said to have been made by Gyoki, and is a 147cm tall wooden statue of the Bodhisattva Gyoki. Along with the standing statue of the Bodhisattva Kannon, the statue next to it, it is a national important cultural property. In addition, in the inner sanctuary, there is a spring that has never dried up even during droughts and is one of the 40 famous springs of Tosa that has been selected as a spring that cures all diseases.
