This time, I'm sharing my experience of taking the cable car in Obertraun, southeast of Lake Hallstatt in Austria. In this town, you can buy a package ticket that includes a cable car ride up Dachstein Mountain and a visit to either the Ice Cave or the Mammoth Cave. Of course, you can also just buy a ticket for the cable car. To take this cable car, you first need to buy a ticket at the ticket office, and then you can queue up for the ride. The cable car has several segments. The first stop is where you can visit the Ice Cave or the Mammoth Cave. The second segment takes you further up the mountain to the Five Fingers viewing platform. The scenery along the cable car ride is beautiful, and I highly recommend it.

Hallshtat is expensive, and I want to sleep in a room with a view of Hallshtat Lake! At times like this, I recommend the Haus Am See hotel located in Obertraun. It is run by an elderly couple, and check-in is only possible at certain times. Please be careful as there may be additional fees or check-in may not be possible after a certain time. The rooms are clean and very warm, making it very comfortable to sleep. The highlight of this place is the view of Hallshtat Lake 🦢, which can be seen beyond the terrace. Although it was cloudy on the day I visited, on clear days, not only the village of Hallshtat but also the stars can be seen at night ✨. Before going to Hallstatt for lunch, we deliberately went to the shore of Obertraun and wanted to admire Lake Hallstatt from another angle. It is just 5km away from Hallstatt, but it is far from famous, one is famous and one is unknown. The obscure Obertraun is addictive, and the feeling of being away from the world is easy to find in Traun. There are no postcard angles here, and there are only the alpine lakes and green grasses, as well as the lakes and mountains that are at your fingertips. There is a large grass on the lakeside, and some facilities for children to play are sporadically placed. We watched a family of three generations walking on the grass, Mom and Dad pushed the stroller, and the mother turned back from time to time to let the grandparents behind her catch up. I looked in my eyes and suddenly felt that some places were like art works for appreciation, such as Hallstatt; and some places are for you to let go of everything and enjoy slow life, such as Shangte. Lawn. I want to be perfect here: boating and swimming in summer; hiking, hiking and cycling in spring and autumn; skiing and hot springs in winter; and beautiful scenery in four seasons. The lake near Hallstatt was deserted, perfect for enjoying the scenery! The weather was perfect, and the scenery was stunning! It truly deserves to be called the most beautiful town in the world! #EuropeTravel 📍Hotel Haus Am See When the weather is nice, you can swim in the lake in front of the hotel, and even go canoeing. Well, it was a rainy day, so it was incredibly cold. The accommodations are also cheaper than Hallstatt. I ordered the Ice Vienna, which came out like this. It wasn't greasy at all and was incredibly delicious. I thought all Austrians served this, but it wasn't. This was the best. What was interesting was that they served seafood ramen. Upon arrival at the foot of the mountain, I was told there was heavy snowfall hence snow shoes hiking was compulsory and I had to rent the gear in order to go up. Took a cable car up and was mesmerized by the snow capped mountains. I was not too sure which direction to take to go to the 5 fingers but I just walked along. The wind was super strong, so ensure you are properly dressed. All the hike was worth it when I saw Lake Hallstatt from the viewpoint. Highly recommend!

We stayed at Hotel Haus am See Self Check-IN, which offered rooms with stunning views and a prime location. From downstairs, you can take a boat to Hallstatt, and there's a park nearby where you can swim. The town itself is small, with only a few restaurants, so it's essential to stock up on food. The accommodation is a bit far from the only supermarket in town. At night, you can see countless stars! On the second day, we visited Hallstatt. It was crowded with people, but it was truly beautiful and worth visiting for photos! On the third day, we went to a nearby ice cave where the temperature was freezing, so make sure to wear warm clothes! After that, we headed to Gosau. We initially planned to walk around the lake, but due to heavy rain and thunderstorms, we had to cancel. Later, the sun came out, so we strolled around the town. The town is picturesque and perfect for photography—definitely worth a visit! However, keep in mind that buses in the lake district run infrequently, so plan your itinerary carefully in advance!

📅 Itinerary Day1：arrive in VIE airport, pick up rental car from Dryyve, drive to Bad Ischl Day2: river side breakfast then drive to Dachstein Giant Ice Cave, for cable car ride and some hiking( remember to wear comfortable shoes and warm clothings as ice caves are below 0 degree. Day3: go to Hallstatt to visit salt mine and a stroll into the small village 🏨 Accommodation , river side hotel in Bad Ischl , if you can don’t stay in Hallstatt as the hotels are small and located in the small alley 🍴 Food Recommendations , all restaurants are good and local Rührwerk Bad Ischl is a good coffee and bakery shop Restaurant am See, great service and stunning view, ask for a table close to the lake. 📌 Tips , it’s a relaxing town , shops are closed early and not open on Sunday.
